Okay, so I posted a little while about about when I should have my period, and thank you to everyone who responded! Anyway, so the first day of my last period was May 6th, and today is June 7th, and I STILL have not had my period. I am very regular with my periods and always have been.. so I was just thinking, how long can your cycle go? I thought mine was 28 days, but obviously I'm not or am pregnant.. but, I thought I was going to start my period on Wednesday which was the 3rd of June, and didn't so I took a pregnancy test on Thursday, and it came back negative.. so do you think it was too early.. or it could have just been one of those false negative tests.. I just wanted to see what others thought it might be.. It has been 32 days since I have had my period.. if I am not pregnant how long can your cycle go?? I haven't taken another test yet but thought about doing it tomorrow? Can anyone give me advice?

What can I do next?

I had a cycle of 178 days once. It has a lot to do with exercise and stress and such. You may not think you're stressed. However, wanting to be pregnant can, in fact, be stressful on the body. When we were trying to get pregnant the first time, I had widely varying cycles anywhere from 33 to 90 days. Relax.

Cycles can be affected by SO many things... not just pregnancy. Diet, working out too much, and STRESS.
If you are stressing about getting prego and working really h*** o* it, it can mess up your cycle like none other!

I know it is hard when people say relax about it, but it truly is real! I can't tell you how many gals I know that tried and tried and the first month they gave up- bam- prego and all was normal.

So just try and relax. You could very well be prego (I took a test for two weeks and it said negative, but infact I was prego), but only time will tell. Worrying about it won't change the result.

Your OB can order blood work without you having to set up an actual office visit, so why not call today.
Good luck... and remember take a deep breath and relax!

with my last pregnancy I didn't get a postive pregnancy right away. I started taking pregnancy tests when I should have started because I just "felt" like I was pregnant but it took a week before I finally got a postive test. So it is possible that you could be pregnant but your period could also just be late due to many reasons. I would give it a few days and then take another test and if it's negative and you still haven't started then see your dr.

My cycle is not very regular when not on the pill, closer to 5 weeks than 4 but sometimes longer. When we were trying for our first son, I took a test at 5 weeks and it was negative. Then 3 weeks later when I still hadn't started I took another and it was positive. I'd give it a little more time and then take another test if you still haven't started. Good luck!

Certainly you still could be pregnant, but sometimes even the most regular cycles can get a bit out of wack for various reasons. I was always pretty much a 28 day-er, then once, a number of years ago, my period was late, and like you I took a pregnancy test which was negative. A few days later, no period and another negative test. By the third time, I believed the test because by then, it certainly should have shown up. I went to my OB and he confirmed that I was not pregnant, but suggested we wait and see for a bit longer before investigating why I was so late. Sure enough, I did eventually get my period. It was a solid 3 weeks late, for no reason we could figure! So sometimes cycles can really get off. That being said, it wouldn't hurt to take the test again now that a few days have past. It could be that you are pregnant and that you took it a bit early. If it's still negative, you may want to talk to your OB and see what they say. Good luck, and I hope this turns out the way you want!

If your period was expected May 4 or so and your pregnancy test was negative on the 7th, I would recommend checking another one or calling your healthcare provider's office about a blood test. That said, it's very reassuring for your chances for getting pregnant if this is the first time your cycles have ever been a few days late. Many women have irregular cycles that can be anywhere from 35-60 days. If your periods are routinely longer than 35 days apart, I would check in with your provider, because you may not be ovulating and they can do some tests to check it out. If this cycle continues to be late and your pregnancy test is still negative, I would definitely call your doctor's office if it's more than 45 days, especially if you're trying to concieve. Good luck!

You need to ovulate to get pregnant and to get your period. Check with your doctor. When I was younger I didn't get my period for 6 months after going off the pill. I had to go back on to regulate. Obviously not a solution for you... but it appears that you are not ovulating.

I often had 40-day cycles before I got pregnant. After my pregnancies, I have 28-day regular cycles. So, you could just be having a longer cycle this go-around. Have you been tracking your cycle? I did that when I was trying to get pregnant, although it was so irregular it was difficult to tell when things were supposed to happen. Sounds like you are a regular gal, although little things can throw it off as you know. Keep us posted, I'm so excited for you!

Are you breastfeeding or on a diet? Sometimes cycles can be affected by lots of different things. It's okay to skip a cycle or two from time to time. It could be that your hormones are off due to stress/diet/mothering or other issues. If it really bothers you, however, you can go to the doctor to have your hormone levels checked.

It is also possible that you have a false negative on the home pregnancy test. It can sometimes take several weeks for the hormones to build up enough to detect. Good luck and let us know if you're expecting!

If you are serious about wanting to get pregnant then you really need to do some research. Buy a book or go to reputable websites about reproductive health. A book that I have found very helpful is Getting Pregnant by Niels H. Lauersen, M.D., Ph.D., and Colette Bouchez. Once you learn what a menstral cycle really IS then you will understand it much better, and know which days are best for getting pregnant and which day you can test for pregnancy. You can also talk to your doctor who will be able to give you accurate information, though doctors will tend to "talk down" to patients you can always ask for more detailed information. If you want to know whether you are ovulating there are simple at-home test strips similar to pregnancy tests that you can use, simply read the directions included with the tests for more information. There are so many great resources that can help you, please don't rely purely on advice from laypeople like myself, go to the experts!

I've always had a solid 28 day cycle, yet this month (for NO apparent reason) happened 4 days early...weird! So your cycle could be off for no reason. On the flip side, my third pregnancy was undetected by three pregnancy tests over the course of a week and a half! I finally went to the doc, peed on a stick on the way out the door, it was positive and the blood work was then positive. I guess there has to be someone in the 1% if the tests are 99% accurate! Best of luck!

There is always the possibility, but a cycle can go on indefinitely. When my husband and I started trying to get pregnant, I thought I might be pregnant the first month that I was off the pill because my cycle was over 30 days. Nope, and each cycle got progressively longer, even past 90 days! I started calling my doctor and they can prescribe a medication called provera that will start your cycle (after you take a test to make sure there is no pregnancy). I ended up not ovulating, so my cycles were humungous because the lining never felt the need to shed. I don't know if you have had multiple cycles like that, but clomid sometimes helps if you are not ovulating. It did not work for me. My doctor actually prescribed a breast cancer medication called femara, and three months later I was pregnant! Expecting in September. Good Luck!!

You could try an early morning test. If it's still not positive and you haven't started in another week, call you doctor and ask for a blood test. With my daughter, I never got a positive test even though I did right away with my boys. I hope you are pregnant! I know the pain of wanting to be and not getting pregnant.

It's still probably too soon to tell with a home pregnancy test. They don't get really accurate until you've missed your period for at least 2 weeks.

I know it's hard, but try to relax and be patient for at least another week. Your cycle could be off a bit, you could be so newly pregnant that a home test won't show a positive, etc. It sounds like you are very excited /stressed about getting pregnant. That alone could throw off your period a bit.

Good luck!
