I caught my husband cheating for the second time and I have now called it quits. I have only been living in Texas for a little over 2 years and am not familiar with the divorce laws...etc. I live in Wylie and I am in need of legal assistance. Does anyone know a good lawyer that can work within my means to answer questions, give me advice and help me with the divorce. I am at a loss, we have a 5 year old boy. Please any assistance or advise will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

So What Happened?

I wanted to thank all of you mamas who took the time out to respond to my question. I ended up using one of the attorneys I was referred too (Sharon Merrick) and was very happy with her. My divorce became final 5/27/10.

Again thanks, you are all awesome!!

I absolutely love Sharon Merrick. She was great for me through all the stuff my ex was putting me through over the kids and not paying medical bills. This was 11 years after our divorce. She really worked within my budget and will do everything possible for you. She is quick and to the point and will not drag out meetings or calls with you to run up your bill.

Let me start by saying I've been on the cheating side so just hear me out. I was caught once and my husband forgave me. I was good for about 3 years and then all of a sudden I found myself lost in a bad place and had 4 more affairs all within the same year. My husband found out eventually about those as well. The difference in our situation is that God gave my husband wisdom and mercy to see that what was happening was not about him, it was about me and that I needed help. He found a seminar he wanted us to go to and I was not ready so he went first. After he got home from the seminar he was a different man and it made me want to go. So then I went. We did Phase 2 and 3 together after that and we are happier now than we were on our wedding day. Thank God for him giving my husband the will to fight for our marriage. If you have not done everything you can to save your marriage then you are part to blame for the divorce.
Here is the information for the seminar - The Road Adventure ###-###-#### www.theroadadventure.org If you guys cannot make it through this then I suggest you go even by yourself. It is not a marriage seminar. There are divorced people, widows, alcoholics, the abused and the abusor, all ages, all issues. It changed my life.

Although I've never needed to use her personally, Lisa Zahn is not only a wonderful person, but is passionate about family law. Her approach is straight forward, tough, but not ugly (unless she has to be) and works more to mediate instead of the typical "lets get him for all he's worth" attitude. The only one that gets hurt in that situation is the child. I have recommended her to several friends and acquaintances and they have never been disappointed. Here is her info: http://www.gpd.com/Bio/LisaZahn.asp
Good luck and God Bless.

I would suggest a conversation with an attorney named Kimberly Vermillion Wright (she goes by Kimmy). ###-###-#### is her number. An initial consultation is no charge and she is very good. She is also very affordable. I'd recommend calling her and sitting down with her so you can get your questions answered. It's better to have thorough information before you file for divorce so you can make the best decisions possible. Blessings!

Hi S. -
Been there, done that. I'm sorry you have to go through it.

My Plano attorney was super-duper expensive, but well worth every cent: Kathryn Murphy http://www.gbfamilylaw.com/Bio/KathrynMurphy.asp

If you go consult with her, you may ask her for professional colleagues who may be more budget-friendly. When you consult with her, it ensures that your ex cannot use them! =)

She'll know me as C. Cannon-McElroy.
