We are planning on taking our 5 year old daughter to Disneyland (California) in May. Anyone have an opinion on how many days it takes to see and experience everything in the park? I never went as a kid so I couldn't even begin to guess.

Thanks in advance for any information!

Jana

So What Happened?

Thank you all so very much for the awesome tips on going to Disneyland! I greatly appreciate all the wonderful advice. Looks like we are going for 4 full days (+ 2 days for air travel). We decided to stretch it out a bit so we won't feel rushed. We're not going to tell our daughter until a few days before we leave. She's going to be so excited when she finds out! I get tears in my eyes when I think about how magical it's going to be for her to experience Disney for the first time. I never got to go to Disneyland or Disneyworld when I was a kid so I'm over the top thrilled too! Thanks again for taking the time to respond to my question!

We went when my daughter was 5 and my son was 8. We had planned to visit Disneyland for 2 days and other parts of the area for a few more days.
We all loved Disneyland so much, we ended up spending 4 days there! Plan on at least 2-3, and maybe leave some flexibility for one more day if you end up like we did.

My daughter is 19 now, and she STILL talks about the Minnie Mouse house with cheese ice cream in the freezer, the "Small World" singing-dollies ride (that one drove her dad bonkers), and the Dumbo ride. We did those three over and over and over, and I never got tired of seeing her wide grins and hearing her little girl giggles every time!

Jana,
I am a Mom of 7 and a Grandmother of 13 and I am a Travel Agent in Lewisville. I am also a Disney Specialist. I had my Daughter Megan, who will be 35 in July,6th birthday in Cinderella's Castle.

I would plan on 3-4 days. You want to take breaks so she won't be so tired and can really enjoy the parks. I would stay in the park or a good neighbor hotel like Embassy Suites. Southwest is running some specials right now.

I will be happy to help you book your Disney vacation. My number is 214 -###-###-#### or email me. There is no charge to book with me.
Thanks,
N. Co

2 days at least in Disney and 1 day in CA. Of coarse the longer the better but it is so expensive. There is a book in the Library that you can check out. The UnOfficial Guide to Disney. ( I think ) He writes one every year. Someone will help you find it. Check it out and it gives you a plan on how to do the map in 3 or 4 days with little ones and it is awesome. Helps beat the crowds, shows you the cheapest hotels, the best places to eat, ect.... Have a great time !

At least 2-3 days. You can purchase a 4 days pass ticket at Costco for $199, which include a $50 disney gift card. This is the best deal that I found so far.

I would think at least 2 days in Disneyland and 1 in California Adventure. California Adventure has the "older" rides.
Also, be sure to do some Character meals at the Hotels. So much fun. :)

we just went duirng spring break and 4 days was perfect. We had a character breakfast each morning. Turns out it was about the only place we really saw and of the characters, so it was well worth it. We bought one of the dining packages becuase adding it in to the cost of the trip before we went was so much easier. we stayed at the Disneyland hotel and it was great. feel free to email me if you want more info on the hotel or what we did there.

This might be a helpful website for Disneyland (Anaheim) - Deals: http://www.mousesavers.com.

For Disney World (in Orlando), this is a great online Travel that specializes in Disney - http://www.undercovertourist.com. We used them to get our park tickets.

A great hotel (but pricey) is the Grand Californian Hotel & Spa - http://disneyland.disney.go.com/grand-californian-hotel/. It's in the Disney's California Adventure Park so there's no need to take a shuttle or train, you just walk straight into the park. It's a 5 star resort and totally worth the $$$ if you want convenience and luxury. They also have character breakfast there every morning. It's my favorite hotel in the entire area.

Have a great time!!!

You definitely need to allow a day in the middle just to lay by the hotel pool and rest. You'll be tired, and so will she! We just did Disney for spring break. If Ca hours are the same, my best advice is to get to Magic Kingdom when it opens, leave before it gets crowded, go swim and nap. Go back for a table service dinner, watch the parades and Tinkerbell flying, take sweatshirts, and close down the park. We did this with our 3 kids, and it was magical! The wait times were 2 hours that day and 5 minutes that night after 10. We rode 14 rides!! I figured it's 1 day of their lives, and I don't want them to spend it in lines. They were in awe. Everything was gorgeous! Our youngest is 19 months. I put her in pjs at 11 and carried her on the rides while she slept. You need the meal plan for sure! Be sure to get the one with the refillable drink too. I'd splurge on the hotel just above the value ones. Those have nothing! It's not even comparable to a Best Western. That's my only complaint. Otherwise, all was perfect! At her age, skip Epcot.
Have a wonderful time and ask for the free pins that say "my first visit".

We're planning our first Disneyland trip with our 16, 12 and 4 year old daughters. I highly recommend getting the free Disney vacation DVD (my husband requested it but I think you just need to go to the Disney website) because they offer up a lot of tips including Disney for younger children. Right now we're planning either 3 or 4 days . . . I'm leaning towards 4 but I want to have a couple of days available for other stuff like going to the beach (we've never seen the Pacific Ocean before!) and maybe to Legoland (which is about 1 1/2 hours away). I think 4 days will be good because I know my 4 year old will only be able to handle so much in a day. I learned this from experience because we went to Disneyworld when my 12 year old was 4, and after a few hours she was ready to go back to the hotel and hang at the pool.

We are staying at a good neighbor hotel -- the total package is half the price from staying at the least expensive of the Disney hotels so if you're budget conscience it's definitely the way to go. If you are a AAA member then they have a lot of good resources -- their travel services are the ones who helped me book our hotel and there are a couple of AAA perks thrown in as well.

Get your hotel booked ASAP -- they are already filling up fast for the summer. We had problems finding more than a couple of hotels to accomodate us because so many of them were already booked up.

We're very excited to go and I hope you have fun!
