If you can't find kefir, use plain yoghurt. You can add it to juice to sweeten it, but I suggest plain becasue you can control how much sugar is in there, unlike the sweetened kind. And a lot of sugar will make diahrrea worse. Give her as much as she will eat without affecting her breastmilk or formula intake, kwim?

You can also buy something called a "probiotic" that comes in capsule form. open the capsule and sprinkle it on her food, or put it in her bottle, if she's taking formula.

Typically, the diahrrea will go away on it's own in time, but the gut flora that was killed off when she was on the antibiotics is important to her immune system, and you might be looking at more infections if you don't give her a supplement to repopulate the bacteria in the gut.

IOW, always always feed them lots of yogurt/kefir/probiotics when they are on antibiotics. If you do, you will most likely avoid the diahrrea.

My son had the the same thing about 2 months ago.. I tried everything. Nothing worked its the amoxocillan that is making your baby have diarhea... you just have to wait it out. it eventually goes away. i think my son had is for almost 2 weeks and i was ready to cry because everytime he pooped i knew it was coming through his diapers i ended up giving him a bath like 3 times a day because it was so bad!

Hi,
The only thing I can suggest for Diarhea is PEDIALITE helps w/dehydrasion from diarhea n vomiting. its found in the baby/toddler department of Wal-mart, or in the baby food / juice aisle at your grocery store; it comes in Liquid juice like form in 1 liters, freeze pops, and (6 pack)individual plastic bottles - comes in no flavor, grape, orange n couple other flavors if the store carry's them.
Also Apple juice may also do the trick of harding the stool.
May also might want to look into Kifer, either way helps... just need to find what will be best for your child!
Hope this helps you with your Daughter.
Take Care n God Bless

my son was 6 mos old when he needed heavy antibiotics for a serious infection. They stay in your system twice as long as you take them - so, if your daughter took antibiotics for 10 days, she might still have diarrhea for another 10 days. My son's cleared up after a week. However, since diarrhea and dehydration are very serious concerns - stay in touch with her pediatrician.

The antibiotics have killed off all the bad AND the good bacteria in little Ariana's system. You need to repopulate the good flora in her gut. Best way to do that is to give her plain Kefir. You can find it in the Organic section of most large chain grocery stores, and any health food store will carry it. Try Whole Foods at 339 East Lancaster Ave Wynnewood, PA 19096 Phone: ###-###-####.

Something else you can look for while you're at Whole Foods is <http://www.udoerasmus.com/products/probiotics_infants.htm> Udo's Choice® Probiotic Blends: Infant's Blend.

Anytime your little one suffers from diarrhea, probiotics are a great solution. It's all about restoring the natural balance of your system.

Hoping you both feel better soon.
