My son is on level 1 baby food and I was told by several people be careful with peas..they are gassy. I've only seen green beans and peas in the green category for level 1 baby food and was hoping to give my son both. I'm a little hesitant with peas IF they are gassy. Anyone experience gassy peas? Thank you.

What can I do next?

Summary

Peas can cause a little gas but when given in moderation they should be fine. Almost everything causes a little gas at first as infants bodies learns to respond to new foods. If you have a gassy baby, then maybe you couple them with a food that helps "clean out their system" (prunes, oatmeal, etc) so to speak.

i never heard anything about peas being gassy...but my daughter's pediatrician told me not to worry bout peas if she didn't want to eat them (which she refused while still in the mushy baby food stage). she said that peas are just starch (pretty much like potatoes) and they're not as good a source of vitamins as the green beans. and my dr, also told me that while i was prego (for some reason i had a craving for peas and potatoes in ALL forms lol). but either way, as long as you don't give too much of the peas (if you notice more gas when he eats them) then he should be find.

Hmmm. My kids never had issues with peas. I think different bodies react to different foods. For instance, my husband is NOT aloud to eat cherries anymore if he wants to sleep in our bed :) but for me there is no gas. My dd loved loved loved peas. try them. they may be his favorite. Good luck!

I would not worry about it, at his age every thing is a little gassy, since they are knew to him. Just give him a little at a time, or make sure that you introduce one new baby food a week. Personally, my son hated the puree peas, but he loved the squash and carrots! When he got older and was able to handle finger foods, he loved peas.

Hi C.,

Peas can cause a little gas but I think given in moderation they should be fine. Almost everything causes a little gas at first as their bodies learns to respond to new foods. If you have a gassy baby, then maybe you couple them with a food that helps "clean out their system" (prunes, oatmeal, etc) so to speak. My daughter wasn't particularly gassy so I gave them to her 2-3 times a week and fortunately, she loves her peas now as a toddler. You can try them a few times and if they make your baby fussy, maybe hold off for a little bit. Good luck!

I never had this issue with my children, nor did my sister with her baby. We gave peas all the time and never noticed any difference than with any other food. Hope that helps!!
