Decorating My Girls Bedroom

My girls are four and two years old. I want to go with the polka dot theme with a splash of butterflys flying around. I don't have much money and I can't paint my walls because I live in an apartment. Any ideas or places I can go online to check out photos? Thank you

What can I do next?

I agree with the liquid starch idea - it's easy - cheap and looks great! get the fabric off the remnant rolls and cut it out. You'll be really happy with it!

You can buy a couple of yards of felt on the roll from Walmart in colors like, pink, purple, lime and turquoise. Then use lids and pots as stencils and cut them out as polka dots in varying sizes. Nail them to the wall.

You can also get wall stickers, like polka dots and butterflies you can use... super easy!

Then, just go to Walmart or Ross and get inexpensive curtains, comforter and pillows and maybe a rug in plain bright colors, and you have the room totally done for cheap.

You can also get butterflies you can hang from ceilings or pin on the walls at Micheals or Ebay or Oritental Trading Company:

Check out these wall stickers, they are super cute:

If your talented you could duplicate this look with paint, but the stickers would be very easier and faster.

I've never heard of any apartment complex saying you CAN'T paint the walls... just that you have to paint them back before you leave...

If you want spots on the wall, another option is to buy foamboard and cut circles out of that and glue them to the wall... you could cut various sizes and such out of those...

Scrapbooking stores like Recollections and Scrapbook Warehouse have really cute papers that you can use and cut out flowers, big circles, etc. from them. Recollections also always has really cute ideas on display through their store, they are located in Frisco on Preston Rd. close to 121.

I don't know if they still have them or if they're available online at Target.com, but I just got some big reusable wall stickers for my daughter's room. They have butterflies and polka dots (flowers, too). They're great because you can take them off the wall and they leave no mark; they're colorful and very pretty. A little tricky to get the big ones up, if you get them -- I recommend a second adult for the large butterflies.

My neighbor has a little girl and did her room in butterflies! She found the CUTEST shears with btterflies and flowers at Wal-Mart of all places and they were very reasonable. They other suggestion would be to buy some accesory pieces naked and paint them to match your furniture but add polka dots to tie in your theme. They also sell wall stickers you could use that you can remove easily. Little girl rooms are so much fun! Enjoy!

I love so many of the ideas that have been posted! I just thought of another for decorating the curtains. If you already have some plain curtains, why not dress them up with butterfly buttons and/or different sizes of round buttons that you can later, easily remove?

Also, expanding the felt butterfly idea, you could make some small felt butterflies from left-over fabric and decorate the open end(s) of their pillowcases, attaching with fabric glue. You could also stitch around the butterflies with a contrasting color for an added accent, or add one of the extra buttons (from above) to the felt butterflies (in the middle of the felt one). This would be better for your 4-year old, since buttons are not so safe for younger children.
