Day 11 of Bleeding...
OK... sorry, guys if this grosses you out... but I need advise. I haven't had a period in 1 1/2 years (pregnant, breastfeeding). I had what I thought was a normal period last month... my first one. 4 days, nothing too heavy. This month is a totally different story... I am now on day 11 of HEAVY bleeding... and no sign of letting up! I know the common sense answer would be to go to a doctor... but I don't have insurance and am staying at home (income is limited). Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I am thinking of going to MEA just to get checked out... I don't know! Any suggestions?? Is this normal? I've heard of having a "really bad period" after a baby... but this bad??
So What Happened?™
Well, when I reached day 23 of heavy bleeding, I finally called my OB/GYN's office. They were so nice and helpful. They called me in a prescription for provera, to make me stop bleeding. They told me to take a pregnancy test and if came back negative, then start taking it. It's a 15 day script and they said to call them back when I'm done and we'd take it from there. So all in all... I had to pay $12 for the RX... instead of $200 for a doctor's visit! Everything worked out... thanks again everyone!! :-)

I know what you are going through. It's not a good experience.
I had the same problem. I started bleeding and it was very, very heavy. I couldn't even go anywhere. After 18 days I went to the ER and they gave me some meds and it stopped for about a week. I ended up going to another Er and they gave me some hormones pills that made it stop, I can't remember what they were, but it worked and I haven't had that problem since. An obgyn wouldnt give me anything, but I was feeling weak and tired from the blood loss.

I bled for 6 months straight (HEAVY). My doctor tried progesterone, waiting it out,but what finally worked was an endometrial ablation (burning the lining inside of the uterus). Of course, that also put an end to my baby making days. After 4 kids and 6 months of bleeding, I was OK with that.
My NORMAL periods last anywhere from 7 to 10 days, so 11 just doesn't seem to terrible to me. However, what isn't normal for you, isn't normal. If you bleed heavily (more than 1 pad an hour), see a doctor. If it is manageable, try to wait until it has been 2 weeks before seeing a doctor, but if at 2 weeks it has lightened considerably, you can chalk up the extended bleeding to a build up of the endometrial lining during your period free days.
Good luck and I am sending TONS of stop bleeding vibes!

My Dr did not give me any words of encouragement when I went. By that, I mean, he basically said just let it run it's course. I had my first period 2 mos after my child was born. I would stop then 3 days later start again, go 5-7 days stop then start again. Eventually the days between not having a period were fewer and fewer and it just never stopped. I went to see him and he said he would worry if I were NOT bleeding, but since I am, he did not feel there was anything wrong. He did run tests and I was perfectly fine. The only thing that helped was birth control, which I did not want, but it was better than the alternative.
good luck

I do not know if this will help any but I bled very heavily for almost 2 months. I also had a c-section though. I quit bleeding after about 6 weeks or so and then started back up not long after and it lasted forever....I called the dr and they said if you are soaking 1 pad every half hour you need to be seen. Good Luck.

I have read that the first several periods, when they start up again, are going to be heavy. My son is turning one this month and I only started having my period again about 4 months ago. The first one lasted a week, and since then they are running 14-20 days. That happened to my mother and grandmother, too. Since you don't have health insurance, check with your local health department and see if they can give you a well woman exam based on your income (ours does). Maybe they can help you out and give you some peace of mind. You should be due for one in a few months anyway, if I'm counting right. Good luck!

After my first child was born, I started taking the Depoprovera shot because I was nursing. After one year of that, I stopped taking it. My period was very random and heavy after that for one year. I went to the ob/gyn and she gave me the 21 day bcp. that cleared everything up back to normal. I agree to go to the local health department. They can usually work you on a sliding scale so that you can pay what you are able. I am a firm believer in getting those pesky female problems taken care of as soon as possible. Good luck!

Hi,
go to the doctor, bleeding heavy is not normal. Although it is more common these days, it does not mean it's normal.
You can become very weak because of the blood loss. And you need your strength for the baby.
I know without having insurance it's hard. Call around, make the calls, see what type of benefits you qualify for, and see a doctor soon.
I bled heavily for years, and finally, I told the doc, and he said he wish I had told him earlier because there is no sense for any woman to suffer like that. I had the burning thing done, and that helped so much. But recently I did have a partial hysterectomy, my uterus decided to go on it's own, and it was dropping.
Best wishes.
