I am 47 and I am noticing my periods are all crazy. Did not have them 2 months, then came 2 months, then just spotting for 2 months but then this month it started with light periods but now are so heavy with clots, bleeding, had cramping this morning. Today is my 10th day and bleeding bad since yesterday. Every time I get up, I can feel the bleeding and then run to the bathroom.

I had several bad pregnancies, got several d&c, removed right tube, and finally adopted my sweat heart daughter who is 8 years.
What is going on? Am I hitting or in peri menopause. Should I see a Gyno? I am scared :-((

Help me moms and friends.....

What can I do next?

I had periods from hell in my early forties - had it every two weeks, flooded like the Nile in spring, cramps that made me double over and puke. Had an endometrial ablation and it all went away.

Sounds perimenopause to me. I was having the same thing. I went back on the pill and it all smoothed out.

If you bleed through a pad in one hour - you need to go to the ER.

Otherwise? Call your OB/GYN and get checked out!!! Sorry you are going through this!!!

That happened to me... and it was like I had to use pads or tampons (or both!) for 2-3 weeks a month!

Turned out it was fibroids......

Go see your OB/GYN....

Sounds like me when I was going through menopause. I bled every day for months, heavy enough I had to sometimes wear a diaper. Then I wouldn't bleed for months and months.

It can't hurt to visit with the OB/GYN. Mine gave me some low dose birth control that is formulated for peri-menopause. It made me regular for some time. Then my doc moved and I stopped seeing anyone about it.

If you are bleeding more than 10 days, you should be seen.
If you are bleeding through more than 1 pad/tampon and hour, you should call your dr. ASAP or go to the ER. (per my dr. who yelled at me when he found out what I had been going through.)

Pretty common for peri menopause. I now know 4 women personally that have had uterine ablations because of this. See your gyno.

I've been through about 10 years of this starting for me around 42.
(Some start sooner than others while others start later than average.
Average age for full menopause is about 55.)
It began gradually at first.
I'd be normal, normal, skip, normal, short (a period 14 days later), normal, normal, skip, etc and so forth.
Now that I'm 51 the hot flashes are just about done (thank goodness).
For the last few years the only hint I had that a period was coming was that I broke out with a few pimples the day before but I'd go months between periods.
I was hoping I'd be in full menopause soon - it was 8 months since my last period when - darn it all - I got a mini period a few days ago and I didn't even get a single pimple as a hint.
Now I've got to start all over with my count down and delay my menopause celebration party - but I hear this is really common.
You can see your dr to let him know what's going on but they'll just reassure you that it's very typical for women our age.
A long period once in awhile is not too bad but if it gets worse or won't stop then stay on it with your doctor.
A friend of mine in her mid 40's had her period get longer and more frequent till she was almost bleeding continuously and she became anemic from losing so much blood.
It turned out to be an early symptom of breast cancer.
She's fine now and is in total remission.

See a gyno, tomorrow. Bleeding that heavy needs to be checked out by a doctor. You could be anemic.
Find a friend or relative to go with you if you need moral support.
Let the receptionist know its urgent.

Sounds Fibroidish to me.......... heavy periods, clots, irregular... heavy cramping.... your periods seems longer and they probably are, the reason that they may seem longer and may not quite be a period is IF you have fibroids, sometimes they press on the uterine lining and because of this, can cause bleeding...
you may want to go to you gyn... they have tests that can locate fibroids and even note the size of them.... no worries, they are not cancerous..
there is a lot of literature on the net about them..

good luck

Don't be scared. Just go to the doctor. I had fibroids and your symptoms are similar to mine. I had a hysterectomy when I was 41. Best thing I ever did for myself. Go find out what's going on. It's better to know than to worry with fear.

I'm there right now, and I'm 48--I have been totally irregular since this summer, and I'm in the middle of another 'period' only 2 weeks after a nearly 3 week period ended. Peri-menopause is the most likely thing, however as a couple other posts suggested, if you keep bleeding heavily and you are uncomfortable for today, you will want to call your doctor and/or go to an urgent care facility.

Isn't middle age fun? At least there is that sense of self-confidence which comes with being in the 40s...

my sister had fibroids which caused heavy bleeding. She wound up having them removed laparoscopically. Fibroids can usually be detected on a regular GYN exam. Menopause can also cause weird changes like that.

Probably peri menopause but make an appointment with your gyn to make sure. Right before I went through menopause my periods were crazy long and heavy. Like a pad a hour for weeks at a time. When you google of course it's either nothing or stage 4 cancer so a trip to the gyn put me at ease that it was fine and just due to a change in hormones.
