OH HELP!! My daughter just let her new sister use nail polish on a drawer of her jewelry box. (They are both 11.) They took the nail polish and put her name on a drawer as a way to share. The box is a cherry wood color (I think it is stained). HOW do I get rid of the nail polish with out ruining the drawer?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well - I had decided to just leave it. Now as adoption day approches, I'm not so sure it is a good idea. Karolyn has decided the change her whole name - she says "all or nothing". This means all three or not even the last name. Now I may be tempted to try some of the ideas. Thank you ladies for all your advice!

Unless it's some really expensive item or family heirloom of sorts, I would leave it. I think it's great that she wants to share her jewelry box with her new sister. It is her box right?

I have no ideas on your problem but your story of foster/adoption fills my heart with joy. As an adoptive mother of two wonderful 4 year olds from Guatemala, I just love to hear others' stories of adoption and yours sounds like it is amazing - such a large family and still having room for more!! I also would like to add more but finances just prohibit it at the moment. Little things like your small posting make me feel like maybe there will be a time when we can do something like you have done and bring more life to our home. I wish you best of luck with the jewelry box and more importantly with the full time job of being a mother to your wonderful family. It sounds like you are off to a great start since the "problem" is one that stems from sharing the jewelry box rather than destruction. Take care!

I think I agree with leaving it: unless its valuable. Then let them know they should ask and why you were unhappy about it from your perspective. And kudos to you for being so generous of your self with your large family!!

Might I say, this is the sweetest gesture I have ever heard! The fact that your daughter wanted to 'share' the jewelry box, I think, is amazing. Come hell or high water, I would not want to remove that name - if even the box was engraved with golden nuggets! A story to be told to their own children, for years & years to come!

Try non acetone polish remover. It will not damage the finish on the jewelry box.

I would try some non-acetone nail polish remover. I'm pretty sure regular acetone nail polish remover will ruin the finish on the dresser. Also make sure you test the non-acetone remover in an unnoticeable spot first to see if it will ruin the finish. Other than that I'm not sure what you could use to remove nail polish.

I would just take it off with nail polish remover and then buy a tiny can of minwax cherry wood polyurethane stain and brush a coat of it over the entire box. Good luck!!
