Cute and Comfortable Shoe, Is There Such a Thing?

I'm pregnant and my feet are really starting to bother me if I"m on them more than an hour or two. I've shopped around and can't seem to find a shoe that is really comfortable that doesn't look like it's made for a 90 year old(no offense intended). Heels are out of the question. I need something very cushioned with good arch support. I have a couple pair of "Born" sandals and one pair of "merrels" that felt good for a couple weeks. But it seems the cushioning goes flat in no time and I'm back where I started. I don't mind paying for a shoe that's expensive as long as it holds up. These two brands have let me down though. Anyone know a particular style in these two brands or any other that can give me some relief? Please help!

Dr. Scholls have the perfect shoes for pregnant women, even in-soles.. I would look online for your nearest local dealer and go there.. but be prepared to spend a pretty penny or two.

I lived in Birkenstock sandals when I was pregnant.
Some styles look a little clunkier than others but they are SO comfortable!

wow...usually Merrels last forever. My son has a hiking/walking pair that's lasted for almost 200 miles of hiking with the Scouts! They've been thru the receding mud of the MO River, thru creeks, in lakes/ponds.....& they're still going strong inside/out!

Dr Scholls, Earth Shoes (WalMart) both last a couple of summers for me.

You should go to either Nordstrom or the Walking Store to try on shoes. Both of these store carry a lot of the comfort brands. I am a big fan of Dansko, Naot, and Mephisto. Once you know your sizing, you should check out 6pm.com every once in a while. They are affiliated with Zappos, and their shoes are deeply discounted. The only problem is that they have very few sizes available. (Hence the deep discounts.)

Good luck to you. With my last pregnancy, I finally admitted defeat when the back pain and foot pain got to be too much. I spent the last 5 months of my pregnancy in Danskos.

Give up trying to have cute shoes while you are pregnant. It wont be long until you are NOT pregnant, and can treat yourself to something cute.

Ditto to birkenstocks - I had some brown leather ones with an enclosed toe and open heel. I wore them with socks. Very comfortable and not too bad looking with long pants. You could get a cheaper off brand version of them - I imagine they would feel pretty much the same.

I also wore Dansko clogs. Also very comfortable. However, they sole is a little high, and you can turn your ankle when walking on uneven surfaces.

Congratulations on the baby!

Have you tried Dansko? I'm surprised about your Merrells. I have mine for a couple of years and they still feel great. I can't wear Borns either. They don't support much.

Try Keen - they've got some cute styles with sandals. Earth also has good arch support. These are both good shoes for folks with plantar fasciitis, so hopefully would hold up well under the preggie weight too.

Remember to try them on at the end of the day, and don't be surprised (if this is baby #1) if you need a size up. My feet went from a 7 to an 8 by the end of my pregnancy, and I'm still an 8 now. :(

Good luck!

I don't know if you'd call these cute, but I had them before I was pregnant and love them because they are so comfortable and guess what? No padding either! They're called Vibram Five Fingers. Takes about a day or two to get used to them. You'll notice that at first your feet will be tired, but you're working muscles in your foot that have never been worked before. I wear those and flip flops. I hate heels now and most of my shoes have them. You will get a lot of compliments. They are durable and I've used them in running races, walking, swimming, etc. I've washed mine about 10 times now. I'm pregnant and wear these.

if the only problem is the sole insert, and if you still like your old shoes, why not get an extra GEL padding? that might help...
When I was pregnant, I wore some dansko type clogs... the ones with the buckle. they were cute with jeans and too.. as my feet would swell :( I still had some room..

good luck

I just bought some Kenneth Cole Gentle Souls flats that are super cute and very comfy. I got them at Von Maur but I'm sure Nordstrom has them too. They are pricey but so worth it.

You're seriously about to love me for the rest of your life! Ok maybe not that far, but Sanuks are going to save you. All of their flip flops are super cute and have soles made out of yoga mats and other such lovely materials...and are so cushy they will not go flat. Check out the flip flops and also the wedges and slip-ons even come in crazy cushiony soles but look super super cute. They have amazing products for guys also, so your husband might be interested in them too.

I bought a pair of MBTs after my first pregnancy that I used the entire time during my second pregnancy and love them. I got the MBT sandals and have been using them for the past 4 years and still love them. Check on zappos.com or amazon.com for best pricing and to read reviews of the various styles. I liked my MBT sandals because they were also adjustable across the top and that really came in handy because my feet swelled up so much and I couldn't wear any of my other shoes.

Oh in response to Dawn B. who recommended the Naot footwear, those are also available on Zappos.com with free shipping and free returns. I've purchased several of my shoes and all my kids shoes from Zappos and can highly recommend them for selection and service.

When I was pregnant i was always on my feet at work. I also felt like my feet were really tires after 2 hours. I bought knee high compression stockings and it made all the difference. Talk about looking 90 years old! I wore socks over the stockings to hide them!
