Aching Feet Shoe Suggestion

Hello to all other Moms,
I am on my feet a lot and they ALWAYS ache and hurt. My lower back is always achey too, due to poor support in my shoes. I have only heard wonderful things about Dansko shoes (from hair dressers to medical staff who too are on their feet a lot). Has anyone heard of Naot shoes? I saw a lady at the store and stopped her to ask what type of shoe she was wearing, Naot was her reply. How would you rate both shoes. They are both pricey, but I need comfort, style and support. Please do not sugar coat your answers! :)

Thanks for your time,
C.

I did not have any luck with my Danskos. Ended up giving them away. I love my "Clark's" (walking shoe) though and for the summer I wear nothing but "Fit Flops". They are the only summer flip flop that I am aware of that has arch support. I have problem feet and must wear my shoes even if I get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. Good luck!

Naot. I have miserable feet and that is all I wear. I absolutely love them.
Expensive yes. Worth it. Absolutely.

Well according to my step-dad who is a former mailman (just retired after 33 years last year) the best thing he EVER got for his feet (and he had TONS of issues with his feet with all the walking and standing he did especially since he was flat footed) were the dr schol's custom orthotics insoles.

You go online, find a store/location that has the machine you stand on that reads HOW you stand, and then it tells you the right insole for you. They are pricey ... about $40 ... BUT he said that after getting those and putting them in his work shoes he had almost no pain in his feet at the end of the day.

I haven't invested in them yet since I'm currently not working, but once I finish my nursing degree I'll definitely be looking into them.

I love my Danskos. LOVE THEM. I had such swollen feet with my first pregnancy, I bought some Dansko's and my legs and feet were so happy. Last summer i bought myself a gorgeous pair of sandals.

I wish I could give you feedback on Naot, but I'm a Dansko girl ;-)

I think it depends on what is causing the pain for you and then you can figure out what shoe is best. Both are great brands. I have had Daskos (clogs and mary jane heels 2 1/2"). Like them both for different reasons. I have bunions... so the wider front and slight elevation is great. However, w/ Dansko, they are ALL made so your heel slips in and out. It's an odd feeling at first, but you do get used to it. I would go to a "walking store" or other shoe specialty place and work with the person there. Best of luck!

I like my Danskos, but I wouldn't rate them as high as I'd heard. I had assumed they'd be amazing since nurses wear them. I have a pair of sandals and a pair of "Mary Jane" style Danskos. I do not have the clogs.

The Mary Jane's - To me, they are good for standing, but not so great for walking. They do mean no knee pain for me but they make my legs feel tired. I wear them in place of heels but would not choose them over flats.

The sandals - I'd wear year-round if I could. I am not sure what is different between the two styles. More cushion and less heel in the sandal perhaps.

I haven't worn Naots.

What are you wearing now?
If you are already wearing good quality, supportive shoes, then you might need to look into something along Dansko, etc.

When I got Plantar fasciitis, I realized I had been wearing either my crappy keds or a few pairs of flip flops ALL the time.
A good pair of Clarks, a pair of Merrells later, and I was good to go.

Hands down, Dansko. I have high arches, narrow feet, and need lots of support. I can wear nothing else now...luckily, they get cuter all the time! They may take a day or two to get used to, if you haven't worn clogs before. Though I wear them every day, mine never wear out-they last and last and last! Worth every penny!

I have had foot problems for the last ten years or so, and found that SAS shoes are THE BEST. They are more comfortable than NAOT or Dansko by a factor of about ten and have better support. They are about the same price or less, and they are just about the only shoes still produced in the United States. I have basically stopped buying shoes unless they are SAS. Good luck.

You really need to try shoes on. Just because they're comfy for one person does not mean that they will be for you. Feet are different. The lasts of shoes are different so they will fit some feet better than others. The last is the shape and size of the form the shoe is built on.

In the old days my parents had us wear shoes around the house for several hours before we could wear them outside. That way if they weren't comfortable we could take them back.

Good supportive shoes may be worth every penny if they make you feel better. I have never worn Dansko shoes, but I know cooks who do, and they have to stand all day. I *have* had a pair of Naot sandals which I bought at a thrift store. Even thought somebody else considered them "worn out," they felt like heaven to my feet. I wore them until they really did fall apart.

You could try ordering a pair of each from Zappo's. They have a no-cost return policy, and I notice that many customers will buy comparative shoes, choose the best for them, and return the others. (Of course, they have to be returned in good shape!) Read the customer reviews before you order.
