I bought a counted cross stitch kit and I want to add something to the pattern. I want to add two lined of script to the top. I think it will be a total of about 9 or 10 blocks high. Do I need to re-center the existing pattern? I will do the script last and don't want to be stuck ripping the whole thing out or not being able to add the script. I'm thinking that if I recenter the existing pattern, then the design will be off center and it will look odd. I really need to get started, so any and all help is appreciated!

yes, you should recenter by adding around 12 blocks to the top of the pattern.
Did the canvas come with the pattern? If so, you may need to count the pattern out to see if there is even room on it. If there is, I would take however much you need on top and move the center that many placed down. Or you just take a much bigger piece of canvas, and cut it after the fact.
I agree with Megan you would need to re-center the existing pattern. Is there going to be enough room at the top for your text?
It depends on how much room there is between the top of the existing pattern and the frame. If you have the frame, mark the top and bottom of the existing pattern on the fabric using pins and then place it in the frame. This will tell you how much room you have to play with.
What I do is Fold the pattern in the center if the design then start out the wording above..Sometimes I even will Cross stitch the center letter to help guide me.. So yes you may need to recenter the pattern.
If you can, draw the script on your pattern to make sure you like it. You must then recenter the pattern or your design will be off. Happy stitching!
