My 10 month old has a cold since last week. Just stuffy nose. Yesterday he started coughing and sneezing a lot. We took him to tjhe doc and got RSV and strep test done, both came back negative. She said she tested for these because they were having a LOT of RSV and Strep cases this month.I was relieved it was negative but I now read that some babies have tested positive the second time around.. He is not sleeping well at all during the night and he keeps crying even when I rock him. His cough seems to be worse in the night.He doesn't have any wheezing, doc said his lungs sounded clear.No fever as well.
I am so worried. Do you think this is just common cold or could it be RSV? I am really praying he gets better soon.
Sounds like a cold to me - use Vicks on his feet and cover with thick socks or feety jammies and keep a humidifier going, maybe some motrin or tylenol for his comfort to reduce any aches or pains associated with the cold?

When my daughter had RSV, it was more in her lungs and it was so obvious it was more than just a cold. From what you have described here, I would think this is more of just a nasty cold. Keep a watchful eye though because it could always turn into RSV. Do you use a humidifier in his room at night? That REALLY helps my daughter out - we have a cool mist humidifier in there and it has really made a difference. A year ago she was hospitalized for a week with RSV and all her cold/flu's seem to settle in her lungs and she ends up with a nasty cough but the humidifier seems to make things a little easier on her. We also rub Vick's vapor rub on the bottom of her feet and that seems to relax her and help with the cough.

Our son was hospitalized with RSV two years ago, and this does sound like a cold. With RSV, my son had high fever (103-104) and his puls-ox was low (meaning he wasn't breathing well).
Something that helps us during "cold/allergy" time is putting a pillow underneath one end of the mattress, and laying his head on that end. It's not safe to put them directly on a pillow at this age, and this really works.
Are you using saline drops and the suction? Definitely a good idea. Good luck!
If he's not wheezing, it's not RSV. But keep a close ear on him, if you ever detect any wheezing or he seems to be in distress with his breathing get him in immediately! Keep pushing the fluids, and try to keep his nose suctioned out.
Keep his lungs clear - stand in the shower with steam, use vapor rubs, give about a teaspoon of garlic tea. Hope he feels better...
My 10 month old has had the same sympotms for a few weeks now. He's been tested for RSV twice and both times has been negative. Try lots of baths (the steam helps) and we even take him to the Chiropractor and the adjustments have helped considerably. Make sure that you keep pushing liquids and give it another week, if symptoms don't improve, then I'd take him back to the Dr.
Keep the humidifier going in his room. If the coughing intensifies I would take him back asap. Otherwise give it a few more days.
My daughter had same stuff keep coming over and over. Like never got over the cold and runny nose. We got a humidifer 2 weeks ago and hasn't been doing either. We got one of the nice ones but well worth the price.
Sounds like a combination of a cold and maybe teething symptoms... My 15 month old has has the same thing for about 2 weeks (she gets this alot). Ive been giving her tylenol to help her sleep and making sure to clean out her nose so that she can sleep better. Also, around this age they are teething and those symptoms are stuffy/ runny nose and not sleeping well... ect... he should get over it soon, it just has to run its corse....
