Co-op Interest

Okay, so I've seen a lot of talk here about organic foods and products for our babies. I see there is a lot of interest, as well as a lot of concern about price, etc.. When I was in school, I worked at a natural foods co-op. It started as a small buying group. Just a small group of like minded folks who got together, decided what products they were interested in buying, bought in bulk and divided among the members. Kept cost low and everyone got the natural products they wanted.

Do you think there would be folks in the Camp Hill area that would do that or is there a co-op around that I could join? This isn't a profit making thing or some business idea....it's a mutually benefitting idea that I'm interested in, have seen work other places, but can't find folks in this area who are doing this or are interested in doing this.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks....I know about Spiral Path and that's not really what I'm looking for. I do my own organic gardening with my father-in-law, as well as am starting to expand within a small friend group. The co-op is beyond produce. I'm thinking of a group to buy baby products, home sundries, etc.. Seems like there really isn't one around here. But, I've found some folks just in the last couple of days who are interested in starting one, so I think I'm going to go that route.

Thanks for the input. There is another CSA in Mechanicsburg that I just heard about (but am blanking on the name). Those are great ideas for those who want to share the harvest and expense!!!!

There is a farm in the Camp Hill area that allows people to do a "co-op" type thing. All of the produce isorganically farmed. They have several pick-up locations in the area. You pick up your once a week and it includes in-season fruits/vegetables (so they only run during the growing season). I believe the name is Spiral Path Farm.

I have also been a member of spiral path farms. One of the owners is Tara Brownback. Give them a call or check out their website. They are great. You can also get farm fresh eggs from them too.....

The first person was correct, the name is Spiral Path, but they aren't really a co-op, they are an organic farm in Perry County. They are online if you're interested. I have done it for two years and have been pleased. I would be interested in a co-op if one is started. (I am in Camp Hill also.)
Thanks-

There are is a Community Supported Agraculture (CSA) program at a farm in Perry County called Sprial Path Farm. From May to November they deliver fresh, organic produce to various places on the East and West Shore. You can go to their website at www.spiralpathfarm.com. There is another farm called Shared Earth Farm in Mechanicsburg that has a similar program. That website is www.sharedearthfarm.com. Or you can go to www.localharvest.org and find other farms in the area. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi,
I don't know of any Co-ops in the Camp Hill area. We are members of a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) and enjoy getting the fresh in season organic produce. The have two pick up sites in Camp Hill. Registration for the season is starting now. Check out www.spiralpathfarm.com to find out more information.
Many of us who attend Mechanicsburg La Leche League have been members of Spiral Path. So if you want to find out more about it please join us at our March meeting this week. We meet on the first Thursday of the month at 6:30 P.M. at Your Daily Grind Café in the Carpet Mart plaza on Carlisle Pike. We also have a monthly morning meeting at 10:30am on the second Wednesday of the month. Check the website www.lllusa.org/web/MechanicsburgPA.htmlm for location because it varies. Some of the people who attend may know of Co-ops in the area.
