Organic Grocery Store/ Fresh Farm Produce

I am wondering if anyone has an organic/natural grocery store or coop that they would recommend? Something on the north part of town? Also, does anyone know about buying shares in a farm and getting fresh products that way? I have heard about it, but not sure of the details or where they are located.
Thanks!

Thanks for the info about CSA, we decided to do that this summer and feel great about it! I have passed the info to many friends who have never heard of it and are doing it as well. Thanks!

I was just checking out:

I would google "community supported argriculture (insert your preferred locale)" too.

Hi K.
How far north do you live and St. Paul or Mpls?

I think a CSA (Consumer Supported Agriculture) is what you are asking about.
www.landstewardshipproject.org includes a directory.

The Womens Environmental Institute - CSA is one we will probably join since they deliver to our church.

I know this store is not very far north. However, we really like shopping at Whole Foods - St. Paul, Grand & Fairview. They are not a coop but I do like a lot of their principles and standards. The store is relatively small, the staff are incredibly helpful and always asking if they can help. They are working to get more locally grown foods in their store. We have not had such a good 'feel' from the store near Lake Calhoun.
Good luck!

Hi K.! There are a lot of CSA's available in the Twin Cities area. The trick is finding the one that offers what you are looking for. Some have just veggies. Others have fruit, eggs, meat, flowers and more. Prices vary on how far they have to travel, what they offer, how often, how long, etc.

We are going with Harmony Valley this year. www.harmonyvalleyfarm.com We get our first delivery May 3rd, and they have quite a few drop off sites in the northern cities, but I'm not sure if sign-ups are still available...always worth a try! I recommend sharing a box...the portions are huge!

http://www.landstewardshipproject.org/csa.html has a great list of farms in the area as well.

I live in the southern burbs, so I can't help you with co-ops in the northern part of town. Sorry!

Good Luck!

Lakewinds co-op in Anoka came to mind. They have arrangements with farms to get the fresh crop for you too. Ask at the info desk.

K.,
I think Whole Foods Market also has a store up North, maybe Coon Rapids? I haven't been to that one but I heard they had a store up that direction. Also, I go to Trader Joe's in Maple Grove which is really great. Somewhat small, but all organic and pretty reasonable. Hope that helps!
