Hello Mamas. So, I'm planning on having more "Spirits" than Christmas Spirit this year! Especially since we have our oldest son coming to visit. What are some of your favorite hot/warm adult beverages? I thought of spiked Egg Nog, but I've never made that and wonder how? A Hot Toddy type of thing...

Also, any holiday mixed drinks or specialty wines that you would suggest?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I love me some tawny port. Goes down smooth with just a hint of sweetness and great for warming up the cold winter nights.

I LOVE hot buttered rum.. Here's the recipe I use, only you might want to half it because it makes a ton of batter... http://allrecipes.com/recipe/hot-buttered-rum-batter/

Butter, brown sugar, icecream, cinnamon, nutmeg, YUM. And there's only one shot of rum per mug, so the alcohol isn't totally overwhelming. The rest is hot water.

Also, have you ever tried chocolate wine? It might be too sweet for most wine drinkers, but I like it. You can have it as a dessert :) find it in the wine aisle.

I keep Kaluha and Bailey's on hand. Both are good over ice or added to coffee. Kaluha and cream as well as A White Russian ( Kaluha/cream/ vodka) is good.

We don't do egg nog so can't help you there.

We are big wine lovers... My current favorite is Decoy Cabernet. It runs about $30/ bottle and is about $15/glass in restaurants. I just bought a case at my local grocer because he ran a special on it for $20 a bottle for special orders!!

A good everyday wine is Sterling Vineyards Chardonney, Metlot, or Cabernet. You can get a bottle as low as $10 which is a good everyday wine all the way up to $35+ a bottle.

Enjoy!

The best spiked eggnog I ever had was at our church choir Christmas party.
Between the choir director and the Mom's of 2 of my classmates (the Mom's were in the choir too) - I don't know what they did to that eggnog but it was smoooooth with a capital SMOOOO.

I am more of a "drink what you like" than "holiday-specific" drinks.

This isn't hot/warm but a few years ago I was at a party and they had what they called (per a holiday dinner/play where they learned about it) "Scrooges Dream". It is OJ, Pineapple Juice, Vodka, and Peachtree Schnapps.

I have also heard of hot cider (spiked of course).

I live in a hot climate, and so we don't go in for warm drinks. We favour champagne, green ginger wine, and of course, punch.

Walmart carries a Southern Comfort eggnog that is made to be mixed with Southern Comfort, and has the directions for doing so. I wasn't a fan. :/

I found this on Pinterest and have been wanting to try it... It's a white chocolate peppermint martini. Mmm!
