Favorite Christmas Cocktail

I'm considering throwing a small Christmas party. I'm thinking a few apps, a few desserts, and drunk pictionary and guitar hero! woohoo. What drinks to serve? I like to make things simple, and self serve so I can spend more time visiting. I'm thinking I'll get better boxes of red and white wine . I'm wondering. Should I put a bottle of whiskey and a bottle of spiced run with various mix-ins, like coke, sprite, etc. Or, should I come up with a signautre drink like amaretto eggnog or hard cider or peppermint tini or Merry Margarita, etc. What's your favorite, festive cocktail? SAndra Lee aslways makes such adorable cocktails and table scapes. I'm no Sandra Lee, but I want to throw a good party.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I want every one of these right now! They all sound so good. I'm thinking a new twist on 12 days of Christmas. How about 12 drinks of Christmas and try a new one every day from now until New Years!

I would mix up pitchers of pomegranate and green apple martinis so that I had red and green cocktails, which is festive, but I wouldn't have to be mixing drinks all night.

Gluehwein. I was stationed in Germany for two years. They sell this at the Kristkindlemarkt (Christmas Bazaar) during the holiday. It's DELICIOUS and so festive. I make it every year. Follow the directions, but then transfer it to a crockpot. Be prepared with extra wine since it will go SO fast!

I use the cheap sweet red that Walmart sells. Any unoaked red is perfect.

Google cranberry/vodka holiday drinks (just Cran and vodka is called a Cape Codder)..

I made one once w/ raspberry vodka, soda water (or sprite??), cranberry juice, lime and it was AMAZING everyone loved it. I just can't remember it now....

I floated frozen raspberries in it as well as a frozen ice mold w/ mint and cranberries and we hung mini candy canes off the edge of the glasses. VERY cute.

My favorite christmas drink (and one I love because it smells the house up so) is a nice Christmas Wassail that you can cook on low in the crockpot (add some dark rum to it for an "adult" version).
I think you can't go wrong with a Cape Cod since seriously, who doesn't like a simple cranberry-vodka? That's what I order 90% of the time if out for cocktails. Someone else mentioned that you could rim the glasses to dress it up, and I'd be happy with just that all night.
If you want to cook a big batch of Ghiradelli hot chocolate on the stove, it's awesome to do 1 shot of peppermint schnapps, 1 shot of Godiva liqueur, and the rest of the cup cocoa.
If just mixed drinks, I like Polar Bears: 1 part Godiva white chocolate liqueur and 1 part peppermint schnapps on the rocks, or a Peppermint Kiss (1 1/2 oz Godiva chocolate liqueur with 1/2 oz peppermint schnapps on the rocks with a sprig of mint).

We have a winery around the corner with the most delicious strawberry wine. I put orange spice mulling spices in it and heat all in the crock pot.
It makes the house smell so good and is soooooo good.
Or spiced apple cider with rum.

Cranberry and Vodka, with real fruit cranberries in the pretty glass and the rim dusted in sugar, and a glass charm. Looks good, tastes good, and everyone loves them!

A White Christmas Cosmo (I think that's a Sandra Lee drink - I can't stand her but this is one hell of a great drink) - white cranberry juice, vodka, lime ade concentrate, and gran marnier garnished with cranberries and served in a glass rimmed with red sanding sugar. You can make a batch in advance - so yummy!

If at all possible, I would avoid boxed wine unless it's common in your social circle. You could put the best wine ever made in a box and my friends and family wouldn't drink it because it's boxed. Bottles seem nicer and you can get plenty on sale this time of year - my local wine store frequently has a decent selection of wines that are 2 for $12 or 2 for $15 that they're promoting. Of course if your social circle will drink boxed wine, then of course save $$ and go for it!

Mimosas with Cranberry juice instead of OJ, and a splash of fresh lime juice.

And you know a really good martini is a celebration in itself!

My absolute fav for parties is a warmed champagne sangria. Apple juice, Apple Brandy, TripleSec, some cinnamon sticks & a few cloves in a tea ball (so they don't get in people's drinks), a lot of kumquats, a few lime slices, a few orange slices, and of course...champagne... I keep mine in the slow cooker to keep it nice and warm... then I leave bottles of fresh champagne to 'bubble up' the sangria (because the warmth makes the carbonation flat). Just leave a ladle in the sangria, and an open bottle of champagne (or prosecco) next to it for topping off.

Love the red & green martini idea, as well!

I would lay out a "Coffee Bar" where you have Fresh Brewed Coffee with Amaretto, Baily's Irish Creme, Kaluah (Cinnamon!!!), Chocolate Milk, Creamer, Milk (soy and cow's). Plus some whipped cream! I also LOVE LOVE LOVE Chocolate Milk with Cinnamon Kaluah (sp?) or hot chocolate the same way. I think drinks that are more fun will go well. Oh, and this is great for a summer party Cpt Morgan and Orange Soda! IF you typically have a stocked bar or like to have one then offer the other mixers as well, but to keep it Christmas"y" I would go with the Coffee/Hot Choc based bar - warm drinks and all. Oh and the Egg Nogg (but I am not a fan of it!) Warm wishes hope it all goes well!!!

I don't like the taste of alcohol so I am not much of a drinker but Scrooge's Dream is good. Orange Juice, Pineapple Juice, Vodka and a little Peach Schnapps (can be made as strong or as weak as you like).

My mom & I usually make peppermint martinis which are fabulous. Just this past week I made homemade Bailey's Irish Cream & next I'll be trying homemade Kahlua. They're very easy recipes & at LEAST as good as the original. You could do something like that maybe...?

Omygoodness I made Pumpkin Spice Hot Buttered Rum for Thanksgiving and it was delicious (got the recipe from The Kitchn)! That is definitely my new attempt for this holiday season...to make different holiday cocktails at parties (or just because lol)..but some inspiration that I found:

I REALLY want to try the Eggnog Martini from this list > http://www.skinnyscoop.com/list/celebrations/top-10-chris...

& I want to try the Pomegranate Champagne Punch from this list > http://www.skinnyscoop.com/list/SkinnyScoop_Staff/holiday...

Although they are all extremely tasty sounding!

Hot chocolate with a selection of extras-- peppermint schnapps, white Chocolate Irish cream (MY FAVORITE!) , regular Irish cream, Kahlua, caramel syrup, sprinkles, marshmallows and whip cream..... Set it out so people can mix their own, kind of like a sundae bar....
