Bra for Chesty Teen

My 13 year old has a very narrow band size (28 or 29 in) and a DD or E cup size. We are having a very hard time finding bras that fit her and provide the coverage and support that she is seeking. She is very self-conscious about her chest and wants something to lift and minimize. We have been to Nordstrom for a fitting and they essentially had one bra that kind of worked. We have also been to Allure for a fitting and got another bra there that is comfortable but not as supportive as she would like. She sometimes wears two bras at once for support and coverage. She likes sports bras but the bands are often too big and she feels like she has a "boob shelf". I know part of this whole problem is that she wants what she can't have - a size A, but I am finding that it is tricky to find such a narrow band size with accompanying large cup size. Any advice on where else to look or online resources?

Thank you so much!

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your input. I will check out the suggestions you gave. I very much appreciate you taking the time to respond! For the record, to the mom who was upset that I used the word "chesty" in the question title, rest assured that I have never used that word with her directly. It was just a descriptor for the title, nothing more. I appreciate your sensitivity to the matter as I also developed early and am larger chested (just not as narrow as my daughter hence the need for guidance here).

Have you looked at Bare Necessities? Here is a sports bra (I am a tough size myself at 30 or 32 D/DD) that I looked at. I ended up getting something else, but I see they are on sale and I still might get one (ya know, for all the working out I am going to do after the New Year!).

If you are uncomfortable checking out the link, you can just go to their website and search by size and it will come up.

I have also done two bras - I hate it, but sometimes a necessary evil. There is a Victoria's Secret one that I use for the outer bra so I can use a 32DD that isn't too bad - it is a front clasp plus a zip front.

Good luck!

As a woman who developed early and is very sensitive about chest size, can I please ask that you don’t call her “chesty”? My parents made all kinds of “innocuous” and “innocent” comments that scarred me and stayed with me my whole life. I’m nearly 50 and still hear their words. I’m glad you recognize that she is sensitive - ask her how she feels about different words. For me, chesty is gross and offensive.

Her size exists although fit may vary between different manufacturers.
I myself never felt supported unless I had an underwire no matter what size I was.

Minimizer bras are probably her best bet.

Do you have a Lady Grace store near you? They specialize in bras for all kinds of teens and women. I find them very helpful and knowledgeable.

This is a European company that also has a US web operation. I have ordered bathing suits from them multiple times (they offer bra-sized swimwear in addition to bras). They have many options with a small band size and larger cup size, and they have free returns.

I have also had success searching Amazon by size. I like the Wacoal minimizers.
