My daughter has a boil on her buttocks. It's about the size of a marble and is still firm. It is warm to the touch. Does anyone know a remedy to help drain it? I have been using Porter Sav.I think maybe it started out as an ingrown hair. Thank You

What can I do next?

Hi S., the best for a Boil is to soak it in warm or water as hot as she can stand it. This will help bring it to a head and break open or drain. Boils can also get infected so keep a close eye on it.If it does break open not all do some just go away but if it does break open and it has a foul smell and is yellow or green in color she's going to need an antibiotic. Sav does not work trust me as Im prone to getting boils, they can get very big and very painful. The best is a hot soak. Good luck.

S.....keep up with the sav and try giving her a warm temp bath to help draw it out. I agree, it's probably nothing more than what you thought but I would still check with your dr to be safe!

If you have a CVS they hace an product called boilease. It works like a charm. Use it 2x a day and it will be gone in a day or two.

S.,

I'm with the go to the dr. imediately camp...I had this years ago when I was gardening ...Staph infections spread like wild fire... bad news if it bursts while she's soaking...antibiotics didn't help me. Treating them as wounds--neosporin ointment and sterile water proof bandaids after a local compress did the trick...Along with eating a high protein diet (I was a vegetarian at the time of the dread out- break and a nurse suggested I eat eggs, fish and meat and the problem ended--so did being a vegetarian, hahah)
good luck to you and daughter.

If you can see the hair, try to remove it with tweezers...then apply hot tea-bag compress to draw out infection...
There is also a very stinky salve called Ichthammol...but it draws out infection. Cover the affected area with the Ichthammol and a clean gauze, I used it over-night, and it should help pull the infection to the surface. It is an over the counter salve, but I have noticed a lot of Pharmacists still keep it behind the counter and you have to ask for it. Not sure why that is...
One quick question....are you sure it isn't a cyst? If it is, it will need to be lanced and drained by a doctor as the infection in a cyst can spread and cause additional problems.
I wish you and your daughter speedy relief...

Is porter sav the same as drawing sav? Because I know drawing sav works wonders with things like that.

I have had boils and yes they can be contagious... make sure to clean the area well after the puss has come out so that she doesn't get any more... I would cover the area with a large water proof bandaid when not in the bath or doing compresses so that if it breaks it is somewhat contained.

I have used Boilease (drawing salve) in the past and it worked well. I would actually put it on the bandaid and then apply the bandaid to the boil to make sure that the stuff didn't get on the skin where you want the adhesive to stick. Good luck!!!

I would try bag balm, that stuff works miracles! Other than that, you can swab alcohol on it.

I would take her to the drs asap... it could easily be/ or turn into a staph infection.... it may require an antibiotic. By all means do not prick or puncture it to drain it on your own.

Put Warm compresses on it 3to 4 times aday for 20 min at a time, Make sure the Dr. knows about it and has seen it,
My daughter had one on her buttocks and ended up in the hospital, She was septic and needed IV antibiotics for 5 days, when she was 1yrs, I though it was a bite some kind.
It started out as a boil and just kept getting bigger,
THey are staff infections and you need antibiotics to get rid of it, I thought it was just a boil, but boils are infections,
The warm compresses will bring it to the surface and will need to be squeezed out By the DR. It hurts like the devil and it will be pussy.
Please dont mess with them, My daughter was septic meaning the infection went into her blood stream and could of killed her.
Good luck and take care.
