Blu Ray Player

I would get one that also has wireless Wi-Fi. That way, if you ever decide to get (or already have) Netflix or want to sign up for something similar, you can stream content directly to your TV without having to hook up wires to your internet service. (You'll still have to wire the blu-ray to the TV, lol). But it would be helpful to know how "tech savvy" your household is generally. Do you have a wireless router in your home? Does your husband do a lot of TV watching and subscribe to a lot of services with your TV service provider?(cable/satellite provider)...

I have a vizio tv with a vizio blu-ray/dvd combo player. I have lots of trouble playing blu-ray disks for some reason. The player has to be "upgraded" now and then I think "somehow" with software applications in order for it to continue to play newer blu-ray disks. Mine plays only disks that were made prior to 2011 and I got the player in 2010. The quality of sound and visual is awesome with blu-ray, and actually it gets TOO loud for us sometimes. I'd talk to a pro at the store to get the real skinny on what you should get. And, we still had to use 2 remotes regardless. There is a huge difference in quality with blu-ray, but it's persnickety.

Some blu-ray players won't play DVDs, so if you have a large DVD collection you'll want to make sure it's DVD compatible. Plus what everyone else said. :)

Samsung makes good bluray players.
Make sure it's got wireless internet , not wireless "READY" , Ready means it needs a wireless adapter, you will have to buy it separately.

Just do some research and look at reviews , go to bestbuy.com and read customer reviews , not just look at the stars.Some negative reviews fall under the category of user error

Definitely get one that is Wi-Fi ready. Ask a sales associate to make sure you are getting one that does not require anything else to be purchased. The one my husband bought needed something else in order to get online and watch netflix and youtube.

My husband also bought a 3D tv, so he needed a 3D blu ray player. Not sure if that is at all in your future, but if it is make sure you get the 3D blu ray player. It is required in order to watch 3D blu rays.

We use our PS3 as a blu-ray player. In addition to the normal PS3 games, we also have NetFlix, and my stepson has watched YouTube videos before. Not sure if this is a viable option for you, though!
