Our daughter just turned 2, and we chose to skip the party. We invited over friends with a little girl a month older than her, had dinner, used it as an excuse to get a yummy cake, took pictures and let them play.

She is just learning to play along side other kids but hasn't fully grasped the concept of playing with other kids at this point. Plus, she'll have no memory of it other than what we photographed and recorded.

We'll do something for her next year surely as she has a better understanding of a birthday and what the party really celebrates.

Bounce places are getting really popular around us - they're great if you can get them privately so you don't have to worry about older kids overtaking the place. A friend had one for their 4 year old at 9am - we all thought it was crazy at first - it was brilliant. It was a private party, and ALL the kids were so worn out, they took incredible naps that day.

Good luck and enjoy!

I am planning on having a small party for my twins at our local community center when they turn 2 next year. I've already booked the room! At this point, we are planning on doing a Cars theme, and getting the cake from a local bakery that makes wonderful cakes, and uses great homemade butter cream icing. We plan on getting the themed supplies from Birthday Express. You can request a free catalog from this link:
https://www.birthdayexpress.com/Pages/AccountManagement/C...
They have tons of different boy themed ideas, along with themes specific to a 2nd birthday party, and are reasonable priced.

Good luck!

You know your son better than anyone. Is he shy? If not, then do a back yard party/cookout or if you are at an apt. complex, rent the common area there.........I don't suggest places like Chucky Cheese or sorts, they are a mess......
As for gifts etc......go to any party plus or party store and look for ideas.........dollar stores have great things too....and big lots........just look around..........

Good luck and have fun.
