Great that you want to participate in a study, but I'd be sure to check with your doc before doing so. One thought though - they may not know how/if it affects your baby. If it were me, I'd probably err on the side of caution and not participate. -- If you check in with your doc, let us know what he says.

First of all, did the research company who screened you ask if you were pregnant or nursing and were you honest with them? If so, then you're probably in the clear, but you should call your doctor to be sure.

****PLEASE do some research about how the patch prevents pregnancy. It seems that some people have only been listening to the literature that Operation Rescue puts out there and it's NOT medically correct. A number of birth control methods operate by preventing the uterus from allowing implantation. This is in NO way the same thing -or even close -to having an abortion.

Get the exact name of the medicine the patch delivers and ask your OB/GYN if it is safe for use while breastfeeding. If your doctor can't give you an answer, then they just don't know if it's safe yet.
As a side note: Make sure you use condoms during this study if you don't want to have an "oops" pregnancy. I used the patch once and it came off my butt with my jeans while going to the bathroom after only 1 week! I know many people who are happy with them, but I did everything right when applying it and it just wouldn't stay on for me.

The patch can be a nightmare for you. Also, research it before you participate. Read the literature carefully. From numerous websites that explain how it works, it states: "Third, it changes the lining of the uterus preventing implantation." What this means is that it will abort a fertilized egg (a baby) as one of the methods to prevent pregnancy. In reality, pregnancy has already occured and it is aborted. If you would not want to abort one of your children, then this is not for you. Just an FYI!

I don't know anything about the patch, but I refused to take anything besides Tylenol and an occasional Sudafed (only when desperately needed) while I was nursing or pregnant. My concern was that they tell you something is safe and then yrs later- WOOPS! We used Conctraceptrol (?SP) for birth control until I was done nursing. It's a pre-filled applicator with spermicide in it and then you don't have to worry about any side affects for the baby or even your body, unless your allergic to the spermicide and your husband won't be upset about having to use a condom! If it were me I wouldn't chance any kind of chemicals in my child's body unless it was absolutely necessary.
