okay, so i bit the bullet and bought the creative memories memory manager software yesterday, i'm now in the process of uploading and sorting my 3 million pics :) for those of you that are heavy into digital scrapbooking, how have you found it easiest to sort your pics? i began with 2010 and 2011 sorting into different vacations, dogs, school pics, etc. - but as i got into 2009, i'm wondering if i'd be better off to sort by month since i'm thinking i'll make a large scrapbook for each calendar year, it may be easier to sort and make the scrapbooks chronologically?

What can I do next?

I always sort by months. I do a photo book for each year and organize it chronologically, so sorting by months works for me.

If you are using creative memories software they are sorted by date and you are able to use the scale that shows on the bottom to select time frames. The folders and boxes are for your personal sorts. I have a box called vacations and listed underneath I have a folder for each vacation. If for some reason the dates aren't correct on your picture files (some of mine weren't) you can change the date it shows on the right for the picture. This also comes in handy if you scan pictures. If you have any questions and want to PM me, I've been using this software for quite a few years now. I really like it.

I found that most people take MANY more pictures of their kids first year or two then it dwindles. What I have found the easiest was during the first two years of my daugher's life I sorted by year then in that folder by months... year 3 - 4 I have just sorted by year with a few folders in the year with major events (wedding, zoo, birthday).

The above is for family pics (is a huge folder divided in to year, sometimes month & major events that happen in that year), on top of that I take a lot of artsy non-family pics and I put those in a completely different folder labled "K./mom" where I have additional folders labeled landscape, sunset, animals, flowers, theatre, church and so on.

(It would help if the indentations i put in read, but they do not. )
within each year folder we divide it as such:
2012/
Misc./
jan/
feb/
march/...
1/1/2012 trip to disney land
1/15/2012 family trip to yada yada yada
2/20/2012 bla bla special event

so within each year we have a misc folder which organizes photos by months and also folders that organize per special event .
