I have a Bosch. I can't imagine life without it! I also had a kitchenaid that pooped out on me after about 10 years. My Bosch is whisper quiet and cleans like a trooper.

I absolutely second the Bosch recommendation. Don't know what model mine is but we've had it for about 4 or 5 years. LOVE it!

What I don't like: it has a fairly long auto cycle (1.5 - 2 hours)

What I do like:
So quiet you can barely tell it's running.
Does a GREAT job with no pre-rinsing.
Doesn't use a great deal of water & seems economical w/electricity.
Gentle with my dishes & tough with my pans. I'll even use it for wine glasses and have never broken one.
Even the silverware holder can be moved around and even taken apart to better fit the load -- very helpful when there's company or odd sized stuff.
Because it doesn't have a heater element on the bottom, I've never melted anything & plastics can go anywhere -- even those items labeled "top rack only",

Good luck selecting a dishwasher that works for your family.
Really adjustable racks so I can make it fit what I need it to fit.

I have a Maytag that I bought at Home Depot 2 years ago--I do not recommend it. It's chinsy. Go with a better brand. I had a Kenmore before that one and it worked great and lasted 15 years. Make sure you get one that grinds food too.

I am not sure if brand matters but I always look for one with a food grinder. You do not need to wash your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher because any food bits literally get ground up and washed down the drain.

Also, no matter the brand make sure your dishwashing detergent contains phosphorus. Many states are banning it from dishwashing detergent so you have to watch or else no machine will get your dishes clean.

PS...Mine is a Kenmore.

My Bosch was the best dishwasher I have ever had! However, one negative...Bosch dishwashers are made without a food grinder, so you do have to clean out the filter regularly. But on the good side, my dishes were cleaner than they have ever been with any other brand.

I work for an appliance serviced and in my experience Bosch and any whirlpool made product is the way to go. Electrolux (Frigidaire ) is the cheapest and you get what you pay for with it. Kenmore is just a Sears name that is put on appliances. They aren't actually a brand, GE, Frigidaire and whirlpool make their products and Kenmore just puts their emblem on them!

I am on my 3rd dishwasher in 11 yrs. Kitchen Aid is my favorite. We replaced and upgraded every appliance in my kitchen with Kitchen Aid.

When we built our home, we had GE Profile which was supposed o be good. It SUCKED and died within 2 yrs.

I replaced it with a top of the line Maytag which also died within 4 yrs. The top of the lin Maytag fridge died as well within 4 yrs. Both had practically been re-built due to warranty work.

The kitchen Aid is great. We got ours at Best Buy and we love the Best Buy and their service. We have a higher end one and have no regrets at all.
