I am expecting a baby but cannot decide between baylor grapevine and north hills. Can anyone help with their good/bad experiences? Also if anyone has any cost estimates at both the hospitals. Which one is costlier? I have aetna HDHP. Also a good gynecologist reference would be great. I know I have asked so many questions but any feedback will be great.

Thanks

First of all, Congratulations!
You may want to line up your OB/GYN first. That could determine your delivery location as doctors don't always hold priviledges at all hosptials.
In terms of cost, call the hospitals and ask what their basic fee schedule is for deliveries. Note: this estimate may be based on private pay costs and not what your insurance contracted rate is (typically less). It also does not include the cost of the anethetist and drugs if you choose to use an epidural. but they do have estimates for vaginal and c-section deliveries so you can better wrap your brain around the cost of delivery.
sorry to be so long winded, but if you end up with a choice, i would find out what the hospitals policys are about rooming in, if they have lactation consultants available around the clock (if you choose to BF), what is the visitor policy, are they deemed a "Mother Friendly" or "Baby Friendly" facitlity, which pediatricians come to the hospital for the baby's first exam and circumcision if a boy (my pedi came to the hospital for the first son, but didn't for the second due to a change in his schedule). Also, heaven forbid anything were to go wrong, but find out how quickly can baby get to a level 3 NICU or do they have a NICU onsite, etc.
Good luck with your deicision. It can be a weighty one.

Baylor Grapevine! I just had my baby there 3 months ago and everyone was very helpful and understanding! My doctor was outstanding and so were the nurses. My doctor is Dr. Cowen with Comprehensive Womens Healthcare (http://grapevineob.com/ourdoctors1.htm). His office is in the hospital and labor and delivery is on the floor right above him. I seriously have nothing but good things to say about that hospital and Dr. Cowen!

Good Luck!

BAYLOR GRAPEVINE!!!! I delivered there BUT will never go to North Hills ever again.

I am a victim of domestic violence. When I was 19 my daughter's father beat the crud out of me. Kicked me over 30 times in my stomach and I was 6 1/2 mo pregnant. I had frozen food thrown at me and had a bat taken to me. I went to North Hills as it was the closet. They took my weight and tempature. I spoke with a dr and they released me!!! My parents took me to Baylor and I was there for 4 days!!! They ran EKG, fetal heart monitors you name it... Never North Hills!

I say go with Baylor! I have delivered at Baylor, Harris and North Hills and would never go anywhere but Baylor again. My experience was so horrible at N Hills, the nurse got fired. They also overdosed my mom on morphine after a surgery because the nurses were not charting her doses and she almost died. My gyn is Dr Gagnon...he has been around a while (he delivered me 32 yrs ago and my son 4 years ago!)

I just delivered my baby at Baylor Grapevine 4 months ago today and had a great experience. My doctor is Dr. Vaughan..and the doctor who was on call and delivered my baby was Dr. Gagnon. they are both part of North Texas Women's Healthcare. The cost was less than I anticipated it being...which was nice! However that may be b/c my insurance is pretty good. My nurse (Becky) was AWESOME! She was very supportive of my desire to have a natural (no drugs) childbirth, and was very encouraging. She would assess what we needed to do to progress my labor and encouraged me to change positions to stand for a few contractions and turn to my left side for a few contractions......it worked....

Good luck in making your decision!

Have heard good things about Baylor Grapevine.I delivered at North Hills in 2008 and will not go there again. I had a pool nurse taking care of me during delivery who left me in a great deal of pain after a c-section when I could not do anything about it but get the word "pain "out---which I know I said repeatedly. When I was finally able to put a sentence together, I demanded to speak to my Dr and he came rushing in apologizing profusely that the instructions he had left for my pain management were somehow not followed correctly.I finally got the medicine I needed, but I felt like I had been in a lot of pain for an eternity at that point.Needless to say, I am not a fan of pool nurses, though I do understand there is a nurse shortage. I had even specifically requested in writing in my birth plan that they pay close attention to my pain management because I knew from previous experience that I had a very low pain tolerance. Did not help.
