Our son is playing fall coachpitch/t-ball and he needs to practice EVERYTHING, catching, hitting, paying attention and not playing in the dirt!!! LOL He is 4 and a first time player on a team of kids who have been playing for a few seasons. He needs HELP!!! We have a tee and my husband and I will work with him but I was thinking about getting him a Hit A Way Jr. and was wondering if anyone has used the product and if it is useful or a waste of money??
Don't stress over that stuff while he is in T-Ball. The BEST thing you all can do for him is to play catch every time you can! When he gets a little older and has a pretty good feel for the game you can check into private lessons at somewhere like MVP Baseball off Thompson Rd. in Keller.
My son is going on his 6th year of baseball now, and he started at around 3 playing t-ball. We didn't have a Hit a Way then, but he got one when he got older. He is on his second one now. They are great tools. Also the Grow to Pro 3-in-1 Baseball Trainer from Fisher Price is a great tool too. It helps their hand eye coordination. Other than that, I would say just play lots of catch. They will learn from repetition. Don't worry about him playing in the dirt either. They all do that, and will for a few years. The attention span is not that great when you are waiting for that ball to be hit. Good luck and get some stadium seats. The bleachers are never comfortable!
I just asked my husband about the Hit-A-Way Jr. He has not heard of that particular unit. The reason I am responding is because my husband was the head baseball coach at UTA for 26 yrs. He does hitting and pitching lessons. Now your little 4 yr. old is a little too young but please keep my husband in mind when he is 5. I just found MamaSource and this is the first time I have given a response and do not know how this works. If you can keep this information or would need for me to give you more information on how to reach him, please let me know.
It's totally worth it. We hook it to the basketball goal and the kids play for hours hitting it and it looping back around to them. I like it because if they want to practice and you are busy they can do it on their own. :)

Please don't knock yourself out. Don't give in to the pressure of your son having to be the best player on the team or that he is not good enough. He is 4 years old. Enjoy this time. IF anything, get him a Tee Ball set and just practice how to hold the bat, his stance, batting, and catching the ball. You can purchase a set at Wal-Mart or Target. Academy has good prices too. He will get better, but it will happen as he plays more games. Mind you, his practice attention might be about 15-20 minutes, so be patient. By the way, there are boys who are 8 years old and still playing in the dirt. Good Luck!
