hey my daughter is taking her first ballet class at eola community center thru the park district in aurora. Just wondering if most of the kids wear the ballet skirt with their leotard and tights or do the teachers want no skirts. she saw the skirts when we were shopping for her leotard and I told her we will have to see if it is ok to wear. just curious if anyone could help. thanks

What can I do next?

my granddaughter is in ballet class at the park district. they mention in the guidelines to have tights and leotard. we got to the first class and half the little girls had on the black leotard and pink tights. the other half had on pink or purple or all kinds of pastel colored leotards with tights and some of them had the practice skirts. one little girl had tshirt and shorts. i would ask the teacher. i think it kind of depends on the age of the little ones.

When my daughter had ballet the Carol Stream Park District required her to wear her tights and ballet outfit. The only place we found real ballet slippers were playess shoes.

Have fun!

My daughter takes ballet lessons in the Fox Valley Park District too and her leotard has a skirt attached. We've seen girls with fluffier skirts that are separate and they put them on when they get to class and we've also seen one little girl with a full tutu and/or costumes and there's never been a problem. Check with the teacher if it's not pink or if it's more of a bit tutu or costume but for the little girls, it doesn't seem to be an issue. It's a really nice program and the girls do get plenty of exercise! We just had the recital last weekend...adorable!!!

I am a ballet teacher at the Bolingbrook Park District. I do not mind if the dancers wear skirts, as long as it isn't too long and not poofy like a tutu. If it bears resemblance to a recital costume, it becomes distracting for everyone. I would say about half of my kids wear skirts, half do not. I doubt their is a strict dress code restricting tights if she is young and it is a park district class. Generally you find this more at private studios.
