Bald Spots Discovered in Daughter's Hair

I would take her to see a dermotologist. I have alopecia areata and it started that way too. It's not as scary as it sounds but it does mean that hair falls out in round patches and then grows back. Technically it's an immune system problem where the body attacks the hair follicle thinking it is bad. I was diagnosed with this at age 4 and my parents first thought I was pulling it out. I am now 32 and still have it. Some periods are worse than others. If this turns out to be what she has, feel free to contact me for additional info.advice.

could it be a fungus of the scalp? you may want to check with a dermatologist to see if it is ringworm of the scalp. if so you would need to get a prescription as the over the counter meds do not work on the scalp only on skin.
If ignored the spots can get bigger with greater hair loss.
All salons are required to disinfect their combing tools after each use, but you may want to make sure they know if you go for a hircut so they know to do so afterwards
In the meantime, depending on where the spots are, being creative with brushing over to a side with barrettes, etc to help hide. OR is she just losing the baby hair?

My daughters both got bald spots on their heads from rubbing against things, i.e. their bouncers, car seats and some of their hair bands. My one daughter actually still has a bald spot in the front of her hair. Though I have been told it is nothing to worry about, it is my daughter and in the front of her hair. AAGGHH! I have been very patient and make sure to not make a big deal about it in front of her. She is now six years old and doesn't even know it is there. It has slowly been growing in but you can see it if I point it out. My hairdresser says that it just happens sometimes and to try not to rub the area unless I am washing her hair. It could be ringworms. Are the round spots. There is however a condition where your hair comes out. considering the age of the child she could be pulling it out. If you checked it and more came out i'm guessing that she's probably not pulling it out. I would have it checked. If it's ringworms she could spread it to other spots of her body and you could actually get it from her.

It doesn't sound like she is pulling it out - especially if the scalp is smooth...I would take her to the doctor to see exactly what is going on.

My friends child had bald spots from the matress rubbing as she moved in her sleep. It was a fase that passed. She is two now. How old is your daughter?

I'm not sure if your talking about your 7 1/2 year old or your 13 month old but my daughter used to pull her hair out when she was about 13 months old too and lasted until she was almost 2 and then she stopped. My daughter is also a thumb sucker and she was pulling her hair out so that she would have something to rub up against her nose. Not sure on your whole situation. If it continues I would take her to the pediatrician she may have a nervous condition or something the reason she is doing this. I hope I helped!
