Baby Lotion

Hi ladies, one of my nieces just had a new baby, so she called me yesterday to ask me this. If the johnson & johnson lavendar lotion was not good to use on her new son, cause of somekind of hormanal thing, that it has in it. I laughed, cause i used it on all 3 of my kids, but now im thinking more and more about it. Not all johnson & johnson lotions, apparently just the lavendar. Just curious, if anyone has ever heard this.

What can I do next?

She is right. There are studies of lavendar being a hormone disrupter for boys. A great website is www.ewg.org where you can look up beauty products and find their safety rating. Johnson & Johnson is one line I boycott because their children's producfts are more dangerous than the adult line.

Hello A.,

Another risk is in young babies is an alergic reaction to the lavender. Which is an additional reason why they recommend not to use on babies until they are older. I just figured, why take the risk and steered clear :)

Hope this helps!

I did watch a program a while back that was suggesting that lavender and chamomile, which are common "calming" ingredients, in baby body products may be responsible for early puberty as well as all the other hormonal stuff people have already mentioned. I own a baby boutique and have looked at a lot of lines. Veda Baby and susan brown's baby seem to be relatively good choices and aveeno is great and more affordable.

Hi A.,
J&J (and almost ALL store brands) put formaldehyde in their products to preserve them while they sit on the shelves. Unfortunately we as humans don't need preserving and it is actually very harmful. On the light side it can cause minor skin irritation (my kids used to scratch themselves bloody) but it can also cause asthma cancer.

So a long answer to you short question is yes it most certainly might be the chemicals in the lotion and not the lavender.

Sorry to sound all paranoid and extreme but it is true, if you look on the bottle it's probably listed as Q-15 or Quanterniom-15

Also a great web site to look up the safety of store brand products is http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/browse.php?maincat=babycare

since finding this out I actually started working for a wellness company who informs people about these hazards and offers a safer and cheeper alternative.

Hi A.,
I have a son who has bad ecgzema, and I tried so many baby lotions, but everything seemed to make it worse and irritate it more, so I did some research on baby products, and found that most all baby products are pretty harsh, with the amount of chemicals, chemical fragrance, and dyes. I spoke to my doctor about it and she agreed, there are a couple good ones like Aveeno, although it does have some of those unhealthy ingredients in it, it is one of the better ones. I was introduced to a product called Arbonne by my pediatrician that is from Switzerland, it's 100% Pure, botanically based, with none of those chemicals, hormones, or dyes, no Lavender, and it was like magic! It works so well my sons ecgzema is completely under control and now his skin is baby smooth, it never was before. I was so amazed by this product that I became a consultant to get it at a discount. If your friend is interested in trying it, let me know and I can send her some samples to try it...it is the best! You can also read about it at my website www.findbeautifulskin.myarbonne.com click on the tab that says "Products, FREE samples" there are alot of other products there, that are very effective, RESULT oriented products, just scroll down the page until you see the baby line. Don't hesitate to contact me, I would be more than happy to send some free samples! If she likes it, I can tell her about the wholesale discount which is a very good deal.
Take care, J.

Lavender can give boys temporary boobs- https://leisureguy.wordpress.com/2006/07/11/lavendar-tea-... that go away as soon as you stop using the product.

Hope that clears things up~ J.

I have heard of this, the lavender one actually says it on the bottle. And the vapor one also I think they suggest for older babies. But they also told me in the hospital not to put regular baby lotion on a newborn because of some weird reason they gave me. I lotioned both of my newborns but just with the mild original formula. I think the lavender and vapor are just a little harsh for the new ones, they still have openings healing, like belly button and if you have a circumsized boy, well, that might sting. Congrats to your niece on her baby!

Yes, there was something in the news about the lavendar, however, the reports also said that the effects wore off quickly when use of products containing it were discontinued. For as young as the child is, I don't think there will be any harm. But, if you're not sure, just don't use it! :-)

Congratulations to the new mommy!
