I am supposed to start feeding my son fruit 1 time a day, cereal 2 times a day and vegitable 1 time a day. Anyone know how to schedule this? Should I let him eat the whole jar of baby food? Here's what I have been doing, 1/2 jar of fruit in the am and a bowl of cereal, then a regular 5 ounce bottle, then a cereal bottle and then reg bottles until dinner time, then I give him 1/2 jar of vegi's and the bowl of cereal. I guess my question is, should I just keep doing that? Or should he be eating more vegi's & Fruits?
Thank you!

What can I do next?

I have an 8 month old who was put on the same regiment at 6 months old.

We do cereal and a fruit in the morning...you can even mix the two. We do a veggie or fruit at lunch time. At dinner she gets another veggie, and now has started eating some table food. She gets her second serving of cereal at bedtime in her bottle.

Also after each meal she usually eats a bottle and naps..except for her dinner meal...we make her wait till later to take her bottle.

I think he is doing great on the schedule you have him on. My little one took a few months to get good at eating a variety of food on a good schedule. Good luck :)

He's only 6 months old. The breast milk or formula wich ever you use is the only thing he really needs until he's a year old. Basically the thing with the babyfood is to get him accustomed to other tastes, textures, and test for food allergies. How you choose to schedule it is completely up to you at this point. Just make sure he takes his formula first, anything after that is extra as far as nutrition goes, so don't worry so much and have fun with it.

Hey! Oh I miss those times! Cereal and baby food are such exciting times when you have a baby! Plus, it's so easy! Now, I have a 3 year old who says "I don't want this" to anything I put in front of him!

So, I always fed a bottle when he first woke up, then cereal around mid morning, and cereal again an hour or so before bedtime. You'll be amazed at how long he'll sleep for that first round at night! Mine went from 3 hours, to 5-6 before he woke up because the cereal is a lot more filling than just formula. For lunch I fed a veggie and fruit, and again for dinner. I swear, it feels like you're always feeding them because he'll still want a bottle in the morning, afternoon, and before bed. It's so much fun though, and before you know it, it will be time for table food, so enjoy every minute of it while you can!!

I would do fruit and cereal in the morning, veggie and cereal at noon. I agree with the other post, he's only 6 months old, he really doesn't need a whole lot. One serving to a baby at that age should be 1-2 TBS. My daughter is 9 months old now and she doesn't even eat 1/2 a jar of food. However, I give her fruit and oatmeal in the morning, fruit, veggie and rice at noon and veggie, fruit and rice for dinner. I also sometimes give her Yo Baby yogurt.... she loves that as kind of a "dessert". You are doing just fine, do what works best for him. P.S. I wouldn't put cereal in a bottle.

P.S. If you like reading books, I highly suggest "Super Baby Foods" by Ruth Yaron.

When I started my now 11 month old son on baby food, I first started with cereal and a friut mixed together. You also need to be sure to only give one type of fruit or veggie at a time to see if they have any allergic reations. So, I started out with peaches mixed in his cereal and he had that for all meals. Then 3 days later I gave him a veggie...I think it was green beans and I started giving him peaches and ceral mixed in the morning and then green beans and peaches in the afternoon and evening. Then three days later I would add another fruit or veggie...and so on. Eventually you get build up to a variety of foods!

I hope this helps! There really is no wrong way to start introducing foods to your baby...you have to do whatever is best for YOUR baby...not all babies are the same!

Thanks...S.
