Hi. There is Apple Holler in the Kenosha area.

I was there once before having my baby and it was fun. It would be a great place for kids and not too far away.

Hi Holly,
I hope I'm not too late to weigh in on this. Check out my website, www.kidwinks.com. Click on Ongoing Activities along the top, then click on Outdoor along the left rail. You will get a list of outdoor activities, including apple picking. Click on Apple Picking, and you will get a list of orchards in the area. If you become a member of kidwinks.com (which is free), you will be able to see the distance in miles to each of the orchards from your house, and you can sort them by distance, too.
Happy picking!

County Line Orchard in Hobart, IN is about 40 miles away. It's the closest Orchard to the city, apparently. You can google them - they have apples, a pumkpin patch, tractor rides and a kids farm.

I live in Chicago and Sonny Acres Farm (I believe in West Chicago near Carol Stream) is a really fun place to take kids. They have the best unsweetened apple butter too! It's a pumpkin farm with rides, petting zoo, etc.

I grew up across the street from Bengstons in Homer Glen. it's nice but super expensive now. I've taken my second grade class to Siegels and it was awesome!

We go to Bengston's Pumpkin Farm in Homer Glen, which is about 30 miles away from us (we're located near the South Loop). I wish there was something closer, but haven't found it as of yet. If you do, please let me know :)

Apples (about 40 miles) - http://peceniak.tripod.com/
Just OK, basically a farm in a suburban location.

Pumpkins (about 25 miles) - http://www.thecenterpalos.org/farm/default.htm
No rides except 'hay ride' out to patch. We go here every year - just pay for pumpkins by weight. Also has petting area, extra charge but not much I don't think.

They also have a lot of pumpkin type activities through the park district. We went to the fall festival at Armour Park last year and my son (3 yrs) had a lot of fun.

Have fun! We're apple picking in Michigan this weekend!
