Hi Moms,

Any suggestions for apple picking near the Chicago area? I will be going from Elmhurst and am willing to go about an hour or so away. Are there still any apples left to pick or did I miss out again this year? :)

Any information would be great!

Thanks for your help.

All Seasons in Woodstock area is great -- we were just there on Sat with tons of apples! Just beware that 59 and 47 both have tons of construction so the traffic was terrible!

Garwood Orchard near LaPorte, IN

from Oak Park it took us about 1 hour 15 minutes or so and it was great!!!!! They had apples, a pumpkin patch, you could also pick peppers, tomatoes and eggplants. It wasn't overpriced and it wasn't overcrowded. We took my 2 year old a couple of weekends ago and he is still talking about apple picking.
have fun!

In the Harvard and Woodstock area are several orchards for picking. Harvard is about an hour away from Glen Ellyn, I know and it's easy to get to and a pretty drive once you exit off of I 90 onto Rt. 20 to 23

I like Honey Hill Orchard in Waterman, IL.
You can find them on the internet and call them up to confirm what is available. They are at www.honeyhillorchards.com and confirm you can still get apples at their barn but the upick crop is over for the season...they show honey crisp, cortland, johnathan, jonagold, empire, golden and red delicious at their barn and pumpkins...their harvest hotline is at ###-###-####. They have a petting zoo and expect that upick raspberries resumes by "midweek"...they are open 9-5pm daily...they have a hayride going to their pumpkin patch.
If you do a google map from your house to their location, you can figure out your time to get there and decide if you want to still go for the fresh doughnuts and apple pie and pumpkins...My neighbor got me started on this orchard and I have happy family memories of going with our two families:-)

I second Kuipers Family Farm in Maple Park, IL I have taken my daughter for several years now and we enjoy it a lot. Our church took a bus load of kids and parents a few weeks ago. Everyone enjoyed the apple picking, wagon ride, apple-cider doughnuts and fresh apple cider. There are a lot of other food and non-food items to buy in the store also. Admission cost 8.50 per person. This includes a 1/4 peck bag to fill with apples. You can but additional bags for 15.00. There is also a pumpkin patch and huge corn maze. Check out their website, www.kuipersfamilyfarm.com

We go to Kuiper's Farm in Maple Park, IL. I don't know how far away that is from Elmhurst, but it's a great place to go. You haven't missed out yet, in fact a lot of the best apples are available in early Oct. The guy who escorts you to the orchard (on a wagon - how fun!) is hilarious.

http://www.jonamacorchard.com/. We had a great time here last week. Petting zoo, corn maze, great play area for the kids, a band that plays on Sunday afternoon, etc. Not sure about the actual apple picking, since there was so much else to do.

We have been to Kuiper's in Maple Park for the last few years. It is very nice. and close.

Our Girl Scout troop just took a field trip to Royal Oak Farm and Orchard in Harvard. That was extremely nice but far. We went on a Friday night and rented a firepit which was enormous. The staff was extremely attentive to our group.

I second county line orchard - you're not too late and it's awesome!!! If it rains in the few days before you go though, bring rain boots to walk in the orchard and a change of shoes - it can get VERY muddy.

And before you leave buy some pumpkin spice and apple cinnamon donuts from the gift shop - they make them there and they are amazing!!!
