I am just wondering where you all go to pick apples near to the city? Do you have a favorite farm?
Thanks :)

Hi A.,

I love Apple Holler. It's right across the border in Wisconsin - we were there 2 weeks ago and it was fabulous. it takes about 45 min to get there on a weekend - usually no traffic. We live right north of downtown in Wicker Park, so it's a quick drive on I-90.

My daughter is older (10) so she has outgrown the carnival stuff - they have pony rides and games and bouncehouses etc but she LOVES the hayride on the tractor and following the map to pick apples.

Take bug spray and sunscreen and HAVE FUN!!!!!!

Here's a link to a list of 12 area orchards from www.kidwinks.com. Many of these orchards have been reviewed by other parents on kidwinks, so you can read their comments: http://www.kidwinks.com/FamilyFun/OutdoorKidsActivities/A...

If you become a member of kidwinks, which is free, you can then sort this list in order of distance from your house, to easily find which is closest to you. You can use this distance sorting feature for any search results you get on kidwinks, whether it's a list of events on a particular day of the Events Calendar or Kids Eat Free Calendar (yes, you click on a day to find out where kids eat free - awesome!), or a list of apple orchards or pumpkin farms.

Hope this helps!

J.

We go to County Line Orchard in Indiana every year. The kids can ride a Moo Train and visit a petting zoo also. It is a lot of fun.
Be sure to take home some donuts too. They are made there and are incredibly delicious.

I second the Apple Holler recommendation. We've gone with our kids for the last three years. As the other poster said, definitely bring bug spray and sunscreen.

Have fun!

We went to County Line Orchard in Hobard, IN last weekend. They had several varieties ready (Gala, Jonathan, Honeycrisp, and a few others if you were willing to walk through the orchard and pick the couple ripe ones off the tree)). Prices weren't too bad ($1.65/lb I think) and the apples are delicious. So are their donuts. They have a kids petting zoo that my 2 and 4 year old quite liked too. Took us about 50 minutes to drive there from the Circle interchange.

Just wanted to say thanks for asking this - I've been wondering myself, and now we're going to County Line Orchard this weekend based on the posts you got. :)
