My husband and I are looking for a special get-away for the spring. Im thinking Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands?? I dont know where to begin. Has anyone been to a great tropical destination? We would like a villa or something along those lines. Something seperate from the hotel. We get to splurge this year and I want to make sure we get it right. Thanks for the info moms!

I have been to Cayman, the BVIs, ST. Vincent and the Grendine Islands. I just got back from St. John and there are tons of villas! Go to http://www.caribbeanvilla.com/ You actually fly to St. Thomas, rent a jeep and take a short ferry over to St. John. The sand is soft and the water is clear and beautiful and the beaches are not very crowded at all. We stayed a week and went out to dinner half the time and cooked half the time. The cost of food though is about the same as going out.
You do not need to pack resort wear, be casual...you are on island time.
Cayman is great for Scuba diving if yall want to do that, not sure about villas there. Stayed at a hotel.

I took a cruise with my sisters. We went ot Jamaca, Grand Caymans and Cozemel. It was a great time. The Cayman Islands are so pretty. There is a 7 mile beach that is to die for. You also get to experience two more stops. It was a week long cruise and very worth it. Look into a cruise and you can get a taste of it all. Plus you dont have cook or clean and you dont have to take an excursion. You can do as my partents do and research the place and plan it them selves. Look in to that, its a lot of fun.

M.,
I went to Anguila, BWI for my honeymoon. It was beautiful and very slow paced. If you want a fast paced vacation this is not for you. I also went to the Virgin Islands last year. It was wonderful. We love Tortola and St. Johns was very pretty. Tortola is also very laid back and has a couple of cool beach bars. The water is not as crystal blue as it was in Anguilla. It was still gorgeous and you can do some island hopping there via a ferry. The baths at Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, etc. Get on trip advisor and check out these places. I have never been to the Cayman but my husband has and said it is also beautiful. The carribean is soooo much more expensive than my "Mexico vacations". But, I am now addicted to the white sand and crystal blue water. I wish I was there right now. We are going to have to wait a while until my little baby boy gets a little older. Hopefully, he will have a love for traveling like his mama. Let me know if you have any other questions.

My husband and I did Couples Swept Away in Negril Jamaica for our honeymoon. This was the best vacation, I HAVE EVER HAD! It was not very resorty, more secluded and romantic. It is an all inclusive vacation, and there are no kids allowed. We had so much fun, and want to go back very soon.

If you are looking for something with the kids we just got back from a cruise yesterday and we went to a resort (as an excursion) in Monetgo Bay Jamaica at Sun Set Beach resort. It was so cool! They had a water park for the kids with a lazy river, pirate ship, etc. My daughter is 2 and absolutely loved it. We had so much fun!

Good luck!

I visited the places Stacy W mentioned, but was on a Windjammer Cruise. This is NOT a big cruise ship, but a sailing ship intead. It was a blast and we were able to access many places other tourist couldn't.
