Would going on an anti depressant help with my crying and feeling sad when I think about sad things? The littelest things bring tears to my eyes and I feel so sad when I think about them. Other times I cryb myself to sleep. I am not depressed just sad about things that have gone on in the past year. I've always been teary eyed and emotional about things (sensitive) I just wonder if this is what I will need. Sometimes it brings me down for hours and I want to be more happier. My klids have gone on vacations without me and it would make me feel sad. I would cry when they'd leave with their grandparents and when I see an old friend of theirs that was like family I get emotional. I don't like to always feel this way because then it stops me from saying what I want to. I don't want to get hooked on anti depressants but is there a way to take them only at certain times like when you know you're going to have an emotional day coming up?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I am going to schedule an appt with a therapist. There are things I would like to talk about. I know I would cry there too. I have inherited the sensitivity from my mother she told me. Talking to someone won't make me stop getting teary eyed or emotional because I have always been that way. I want to know how to turn the faucet off at emotional times. A way to distract myself from the crying. I hgad an outburst the other day to my childs old teacher. I love and care about my kids to pieces. I even get teary eyed when my youngest leaves for school.

You can't get "hooked" on anti depressants unless your doctor gives you the wrong thing.

Sounds like you need a therapist rather than a drug. You don't have a chemical imbalance, you are just an over sensitive individual (not a bad thing! But difficult to manage at times). Please try going to a therapist to discuss your emotions and feelings before going on anti depressants. You said yourself, you aren't depressed. So don't treat it like depression.

Best of luck. If you have any specific questions feel free to message me. I'm on anti depressants for anxiety, but mine is a chemical imbalance. When I have had obvious emotional problems, I go to therapy. It helps me a lot.

Hi.
I am sorry what you are going through and applaud your writing.
I agree with the good advice below.

I would of course talk to someone first. a good therapist clergyman etc....and would leave a decision to take any medicine up to a trained dr ...togehter with you the patient!

if you go with meds, please continue to work on any issues with a trained therapist. taking a med is not a cure-all. from my layman's knowledge, it is slated to help you deal with issues, not solve them.
Best of Luck.

Please consult your doctor as no one here can tell you whether you do or do not have an imbalance to where using anti depressants can be helpful. It would be beneficial to talk to your doctor about all of your symptoms and please don't think you need to rely on medications to help; you may be able to just see a therapist for help. Only your doctor will be able to point you in the right direction. I hope you find help in whatever form it may be.

Anti-depressants are not habit-forming, that's a myth.

And no, you can't take them 'as needed'. They build up in your system so you have to take them every day.

And IMO, you should definitely see a therapist or psychiatrist to talk about any depression symptoms you may be having to see if medication is right for you.

I have had a history of depression since age 14, and I've been taking anti-depressants most of my adulthood. Without them, I can't function because it is literally overwhelming to get out of bed. People who haven't been through it do not understand.

If you are thinking about relief, you should talk to a professional.

Good luck, hope you feel better soon!
