Always Tired After Weaning My 9 Month Old...

Hi,
I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem...
I just weaned my 9 month old last month and lately I've been SO TIRED. I am getting enough sleep, 6-8 hours a night but during the day I am more tired then usual. I can't remember if this happened with my first child so I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I will be going to my doctor if it doesn't get better next week. Thank you!

You should get your thyroid level checked. It's very normal to have an abnormal thyroid level after pregnancy. Sometimes you need thyroid replacement therapy for this.

Have your doctor check your thyroid levels! After I finished nursing my second child, mine was completely shot! I now take levothyroxine once a day...it has made all the difference in the world. Good luck!

Could you be pregnant again?

It sounds like you may be iron-deficient, which is very common among nursing and post-nursing moms. You might want to increase iron in your diet through food, supplements, and use of cast iron pans. "Liquid Iron," which you can find at most health food stores or co-ops, is great. You can also just pick up iron tablets in supplement form. Many herbs are high in iron, such as Yellow Dock, Nettles, Dandelion. . . you might consider taking herbs before taking the straight iron supplements as those can often cause constipation and stomach upset. But the most basic thing to do is add more iron-rich foods into your diet. Hope you feel better soon!

Sometimes after pregnancy your thyroid can be off. I suggest a visit to the doctor just in case. Good luck.

Hi J.
The number one complaint coming into a physician is fatigue.
Stress, kids, life and more commonly poor nutrition lend to this. I was a tired mom of twins til they were 2- used to have to nap daily even though getting sleep. I started taking in good nutrition- also got my shape back which was a bonus- and I haven't napped since. Check out our products at http://www.mydietshop.org I'm a 47yo gal, wife, mom of twins, work med. career and have part time business- still energy to burn with good nutrition. You're probably deficient in omega3fatty acids- check out the herbalifeline. It's really important and it takes 3 years to gain your stores back from your baby taking them while inutero- that is if you dont supplement. Most of my COI use it throughout pregnancy. Anyway. I'll be out of town helping parent with surgery for a couple weeks but still on email.
Think colorful food.
