Hi Moms! I went to an ALDI store in Plano yesterday for the first time! They have some good prices. Could you tell me what foods/products you buy there and how well you like them? I really appreciate hearing from you.

What can I do next?

I refuse to buy their produce as it tastes bad to me. I buy canned vegetables there sometimes and other paper items, etc. but think I can get just as good a deal with sales at other stores. I'm not a fan of Aldi.

their food they sell can tend to be obscure brands, that major retailers wont sell. Either because they do not get excellent reviews, or are blacklisted for some reason. Also Aldi's buys in such BULK that when a company that is not selling product has to lower prices in order to meet expiration dates, Aldi's snaps it up and relabels as well. Generally they are able to squeak by on some of the expiration dates. That is one thing you really need to look for when shopping there. I picked up a few things only to send them to the front counter, because they were months even years outdated. Some of there brands are also European. Aldi's is a German based store chain. Where the foods, milks, and product used just tastes a little different. There are some staples I just cant bring myself to buy from that store. Mainly there milk and butter tastes off to me. Though I do get other things, like salts, boxed items, and frozen foods from them. SUPER cheap. If I do grocery shopping I tend to go to three different stores in one day.

I mostly get the produce there since it's so inexpensive. I have also gotten milk and frozen fruit. My kids really like the frozen french toast sticks.

I buy everything I can from ALDI's. Especially veggies and milk. They are almost always cheaper than the other grocery stores in the area. I have bought cereal, chips, spaghetti and sauce, meat, canned veggies & fruit. I have not bought anything there that I don't like.

There's "(whatever) Cupboard" boxed mashed potatoes are good, if you like potatoes in a box. :) My husband likes their pizza. I buy their produce and their tortilla chips, which are like a dollar a bag. Their milk is fine, eggs, etc...

...do not buy their cheese. It's supposedly real, but it takes like a processed cheese product.

I went once here in Illinois, I was not impressed by anything I purchased - I tend to find in stores like that if they are not a brand I am familiar with to pass (do research if price is that good) it is food and just not worth the risk. I did notice, however that a lot of special needs adults were in the store learning how to spend money correctly and often their systems are sensitive - so I guess I am just a tad overprotective but after that first trip I have not gone again.

We get milk, cheese, eggs, produce and occasionally chips. We didn't enjoy the frozen pizza, and other frozen foods but we are a low processed or no processed food family. Most of their foods are a major label with their label in place.

I've bought veggies, milk, and frozen foods. The dried goods were small proportions and the meat prices did not impress me, but the rest were very cheap and quality was fine.

We were just at Aldi's this weekend too! We got some cereal, which does taste a little different from the name brands, but not bad different. We also stocked up on seasonings, milk, eggs, butter, canned tomatoes so I can start making homemade spaghetti sauce, bread, potatoes, a few fresh veggies. I always make sure I inspect the fresh fruit and veggies really well, and be sure to wash them when you get them home.

We shop at Aldi quite a bit. True, the brand names are unfamiliar, but the quality on everything we have purchased has been very good. Their produce is always fresh and very inexpensive compared to other grocery stores. The meat, frozen food, and dairy products I have purchased have been of good quality and better priced than other stores in our area. It just takes getting used to seeing the unfamilary brand names on everything.

We shop there all the time. I get crackers and chips, all baking goods (sugar, flour, brown sugar, oil, spices etc) there. milk, eggs, cheese, cream for my coffee, cereal, I love the pop tarts but my kids don't. beans, rice, tortillas, some canned veggies but not all, cake mixes and boxed mixes are as good or better than name brands, chili and taco mixes, frozen veggies, we like all the frozen fish and the meat is good, i get bread and hamburger and hot dog buns. the pop is just ok, the bottled water thats flavored is great. the fresh produce is all good. basically we like it all lol

If I get the sale priced items at the major chain grocery stores it is cheaper then Aldi stuff. There are 2 major chain grocery store by me that have one week out of the month will have items marked for a $1 that are normally over $2. Also buy one get one free items a lot, etc. I always stock up on these major sales and it beats Aldi's prices.

I am editing my response. I thought I didn't like Aldi but I went that night after all the responses. I didn't want to try their fruit and veggies before since I thought it would be bad. Well their fruit is yummy and very cheap! The oranges I got were really sweet and the blueberries were good. I got a lb of baby carrots for $0.49! So I will go their from now on for only their fruit and veggies. Their milk is $1.77 gallon and never seen it that cheap before. However, I will still buy packaged items at big chain grocery stores as I think that is cheaper when I go during the super sales and stock up.

We love Aldi food! We can pretty much complete our shopping. The only thing that can be iffy is sometimes the produce. One week we can find great, fresh produce. Another week it doesn't look so great. I have yet to find a store with less expensive meat, so we always go there for chicken, pork, and ground beef.
