Does anyone know how I would figure out the date of my last period? After miscarrying last month on the 8th, I bled for 6 days and havent gotten my regular period yet. I would like to try to get pregnant again after having a regular period (as my doc said to wait at least one full cycle) and I like to use the ovulation predictor on baby.com to find out my more fertile times. Has anyone any clue on this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Shane

I have had many miscarriages ( 4 that we know of) I would strongly recomend that you wait for 2 "normal" periods. Your body still needs to "flush" out. Forgive me wordage I simply know the battle of getting and staying prego all to well. I hope this helps and good luck.

I just had a miscarriage in September and didn't really stop bleeding or spotting until I got my period- I then started the pill to get myself regular before we try again. When I went in to talk about options (if you will) my OB/GYN. told me to expect my regular cycle 4-6weeks after my miscarriage.
She also told me that I may not even ovulate for a month or more because a miscarriage IS a traumatic thing to us and our bodies.
So I guess I would just wait until you are sure you've gotten a period- maybe even wait two months before worrying about charting ovulation dates. I chose the pill because I was "off" before I got pregnant the second time and I'm convinced that my body wasn't ready to be pregnant yet. So I'm getting myself regular on the pill then hoping when I go off in a month that my body will know what to do - I knew exactly when I was ovulating with my first pregnancy and was very regular and had what I would say is a perfect pregnancy.
Again, I was told it would be 4-6weeks after the date of the miscarriage- for me it was just over 4 weeks later. It was really hard to tell with the first period because I never really stopped but there was a definate consistent increase in the bleeding. So just hang in there I guess.
Hope that helps and GOOD LUCK!!!! mymonthlycycles.com also has good charts and ovulation calculators.

I am sorry for your loss. I have had 2 miscarriages myself. The first one was 10 years ago and the second was almost 1 year ago now. I bled hard and with clots and a lot of painful cramping for about 7 days with both miscarriages. I got my period 1 month after the second time. The first time I found out I was still pregnant with my son but I had lost his twin. Anyway I would wait until you bleed again and count that as your one cycle. Don't start TTC again until after that cycle has ended. Right now your body is trying to heal and reset it self. Give it the time it needs and start again in another month or two. I know it is hard to wait and totally stinks. But it is what is best for your body and your next pregnancy. Good luck!

Shane,
I am not sure how to figure out the date of your last period, but you could probably call your OBGYN's office, or a hospital nurse line for help.
I just wanted to say how sorry I was to hear about your loss, and that I wish you the best of luck in getting pregnant again.

So sorry to hear you have gone thru this.
i have gone thru 6 miscarriages all at 12 weeks and i had been told to wait 3 months before trying again. every dr has a different opinion. but as far as when your period will start it just depends on the person.. as i'm sure you are finding out from everyone's reply .:-)
mine did always start 4 weeks after my D&C procedure.
but i had always been very regular with my cycle.
good luck and try to be patient. for your body. it's hard.. i totally understand that.

I've had four miscarriages, and "normal" periods didn't happen until about four months after each. After each one, I really felt the need to get pregnant again.

I got a new OB/GYN who helped me through it. She said wait at least three months after "regular" cycles start again, and give yourself a fresh start. Start your pre-natal vitamins and whatnot before you try again to give yourself a head-start. I used the Natural Family Planning method of birth control on top of using condoms (as I can't take hormonal birth control) to figure out when I was most fertile, and we had our girls within 2 days of our projected due dates from the doctors.

You can talk to any Catholic parish (whether you're Catholic or not) to find a couple who teaches NFP in your area. It's the MOST accurate method I've ever used. Best of luck hon, and even though Baby is the biggest thing on your mind, don't forget to have fun along the way! :)

I'm so sorry about your loss. I have had 2 miscarriages. The first one, I went about 2 months (calculated from the date of D&C) before I had a period. I was told at that time to wait until I had 1 period to try again, but wait for 2 to make calculating the date of conception easier. I just had my second miscarriage and had a D&C October 4th. It took about 17 days to stop bleeding from that and I've not yet gotten a period; I was told I should get one within 2 months of my D&C and if not, call the doctor. I was also told it was OK to start trying again right away. I am only guessing, in your case, if I had to pick a day to go by, I'd say the day you started to bleed would count as the first day of your last period. But- I honestly wouldn't know how to make that work. I've never tried the basal body temp approach, but have friends that say it works, that would be the least expensive yet most precise predictor of ovulation I can think of. I found a website for you that briefly described ths process: http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/bbt/bbtfaq.html
Good Luck!
