Advice on Managing a BIG Baby

My healthy happy six month old is growing like a weed and is already in 12-18 month sizes. He has outgrown the height and weight limits on the infant carseat, bouncey seat and swing, bjorn etc. Trouble is he's not sitting up on his own yet and I'm finding it tough to manage him. For instance I can no longer secure him in the bouncey seat in the bathroom while I bathe my older daughter, and I can no longer take him to the grocery store with the infant carrier in the cart, plus he's too long to fit in the infant bathtub for bathing, etc. Any ideas???

What can I do next?

My daughter is over the "weight limit" on her swing and bouncy, etc., but I still use them as she cannot sit up on her own.

As long as you are in the same room to keep a partial eye on him, there is no reason he can't still use the "outgrown" things. The only other thing I would suggest is getting a Hot Sling baby sling to replace the Bjorn. Hot sling is the only sling that comes in actual sizes.

while you bathe your daughter you could put him on a blanket with some toys. for the grocery, get one of those cushioned baby cart seats, they have them at target, and then roll up blankets and put them on both sides so he is tucked in securly. we started our daughter at 4 months in the cart carrier and put the blankets in for support and she loved being able to "sit up" and see what was going on. good luck!

My son is 7 months old and we had the same issues. I went to babies r us and bought one of those bath seats, like this ( http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2969577 ), when he was six months old, he couldnt sit up on his own, but he did really good in it.
As far as finding a place to put the baby when you are getting things done, I put my son in his highchair. I strap him in and and give him a couple toys to play with while I'm cleaning the house.
If you get a bumpo seat make sure you put your son in one at the store. My sons fat legs were too fat.

Has the pediatrician expressed any concern? Is he growing just in height or in weight too? Part of the problem of why he's not sitting up yet could be because his joints can't handle the weight.
At 6 months old I quit using a baby bathtub and just started using the regular bath tubs. Put about 2-3 inches of water in the bathtub and just lay him down in there. If you're not comfy with that idea then you can always get in with him. I've done that as well.

Hi S..

My son is a big boy too (almost 20 pounds at 4 1/2 months) .

Try the bumbo seat on the floor in the bathroom. Its great for kids who cannot sit yet. My son loves it!
