Advice on a Aggravating Back Itch

I have had this aggravating itch on my back for almost a week now. I am not sunburned nor do I have a rash. If you start on my left side of my back under my shoulder blade and go straight across to the right side, that is where is itches. I am on Zoloft and have been taking that since my daughter was 4 months old due to post-partum depression. Now at the lower back almost to the top of my "hiney", it itches there but my husband says there is a small rash there but it just looks like heat. Could this possibly be stress related? Could it be nerves? I really hate to go to the doctor for her to tell me that its nothing. I have tried a hydrocortisone cream. That didn't help. Its just that one place on my back that has been driving me crazy. Every time my husband passes by me, I ask him to scratch. If I walk by a doorway, I lean on the door and scratch. Even the scratching doesn't seem to touch the itch. Can anyone help?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

First let me thank everyone for all the advice. Come to find out, the itch was not from nerves or the zoloft. Even though, I was not sunburned, my skin started peeling. Not from dry skin though. We had a pool party for my daughter, and apparently, with out getting burned, my skin just started peeling from the sun exposure. Strange, huh? I am better now. Thanks again for everything.

It very well could be stress-related,heat-related, or you could have gotten bitten by something. BUT; it could also be a reaction to the Zoloft. Just because you have been on it a while, doesn't mean that it can't aggravate something.Don't let the tich go on too long without seeking medical adive. Try WEBMD.com, maybe there will be some solution or advice that can help you there. good luck and take care!!

I have had the same thing happen to me, and it was the Zoloft. (That medicine was wonderful) But after taking it for several months i started itching on my chest, i scratched untill i made myself bleed. And it turned out to be the zoloft that was causing it. If i were you i would ask my dr to give me something different. and see if the itching goes away. i hate to say but i have not taken anything else that worked as well as the zoloft but i stopped taking it and the itch went away. good luck to you. let me know if the zoloft was the problem.

If you can't clear it up with cream u have to go to the doc, they'll either give u a stronger cream or a round of predisone. That will clear it up.

Have you tried soaking in a bath with a whole box of baking soda... it will stop the itch and neutralize whatever it is.... it may take a couple of times... Sometimes we can grow bacteria on our skin and it will cause an itch. Let me know how it works if you try it.

Have you by any chance been soaking in the tub or shower more lately? Possibly to calm your nerves? Doing so could be drying your skin. Just thought I'd mention another possible cause. If you can't think of one I'd see the doctor. In the meantime, Eurecin makes a great cream for extremely dry skin.

i hate to sound silly but my back has itched my whole life....worse in the summer think its the heat , sweating ect...esp if your itch is near your bra or pant line...i am a nurse i dont want you to think im an expert but most likely its irritated try changed laundry detergent, or body wash usually what causes stuff like that it could be the zoloft but if it was an allergic reaction you would have a rash on chest back and legs most likely or a large area... not a small one...you can definatly have a reaction to drugs any time but usually have them in the first week or 2 of taking them....also you may just have dry skin which is what i think my problem is try some moisturizing lotion....if it gets worse or you really get worried by all means see a physian....it just urks me that you pay 75 to 100 dolars for them to look at you and say ok you fine....well i hope this bit of information helps goodluck.....
