Funky Question - One Hand Itching

okay- this is totally weird...my left hand (the top) itches.. like it's dry - but it's NOT dry...it's NOT red, swollen or anything...it just itches....no other part of my body itches like this...I can't see a bug bite and I can't see any problem...I had my husband feel it and he said it doesn't feel dry...

did the "pinch" method for dehydration...skin falls back down right away - doesn't stay "pinched"...

Any ideas on what's up?

Nope, Jo - no Vicodin for me - gives me nasty nightmares...
Appriel - thanks!! didn't think of hormone flux...would think it would be all over body - but who knows!!! I had a total hysterectomy in Feb and haven't had to take any HRT...whew!!!

SL - no. No injury - it itches like I have a mosquito bite but there's NOTHING there...can't see any redness (except for my scratching!)

Nope, no poison sumac or ivy - it's been too yucky to go outside and do anything other than the pool! :)

and I don't want to go to the Dr and say "hey - my left hand itches from my ring finger to my index finger....." I love this site as you ladies are helping me think outside the box! THANK YOU!!!!

What can I do next?

Do you wash dishes by hand? I know for me, some of the dish soaps cause my hands to itch. I've been using the new Palmolive Soft Touch dish soap with Vitamin E. Once, I started using this stuff, the side of my right hand itched terribly and cracked. When I switched back to Dawn, all is fine.

Just a thought.

There's the old superstition that when your left hand itches it means you're going to come into money! Maybe that's it!

Have you had any contact with anything that might have come in contact with poison ivy/oak/sumac?
Any changes in soaps/detergents/cleaning products/lotions/perfume/makeup/etc?
I'd wash with a mild soap, rinse thoroughly, pat dry and if it still itches put some oatmeal on it for awhile and see if that helps.

Could be eczema or heat rash. I would apply ice for a few minutes to stop the itching immediately, then cortisone cream, and repeat till the itching stops. Might take a few days. If this doesn't work, itching is actually mild pain, so could be a strange nerve thing like a slight sprain or something? In the meantime, assuming it's just skin don't use anything scented and make sure to use really mild moisturizing soap like cetaphil or aveeno.
Hops you feel better soon!

Are you rsure you are interpreting "itch" correctly. Could it be numbness, like you injured your armor hand somehow?

Does it feel like it's almost itching UNDER your skin? I get that sometimes. Annoying. It goes away on it's own. I have no idea what it is either!

like another poster asked does it itch or tingle? If you sit funny or have your elbow bent in the same position long enough your nerves will make that portion of your hand tingle. I get that a lot. Ill get on the couch with my nook and sure enough my left arm is bent to support my head and also while driving.

Are you taking vicodone? Seriously that is the strangest side effect ever! I would actually wake up from the itching, different spot each time.....

What I am saying is on any new meds that you didn't read the page and a half of side effects?
