Am raising my 17 month old Granddaughter,Jaime. Every since the seasonal rains started, she has been getting ants in her baby bed, and bites all over every night. I pulled her bed away from the wall, and she has no food in her room at all........dont know what to do to stop this. Dont feel comfortable using insecticides on her bed........but she keeps getting covered in ant bites........any ideas ? My daughter in law says she is having the same problem with her 12 month old .

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for all the advice . Alot of really great ideas.

Someoen told my daughter in law, to put the legs of her baby bed inside a small bowl, and fill the bowl with water.....keeping the ants from being able to get in her bed, without drowning........so far , it seems to be working great.

She doesnt play in her bedroom, so the water isnt an issue at this age, anyways.

Thanks everyone !!

There is a pest control company out of New Port Richey that uses all natural pest control products called Earth's Best Pest Management: ###-###-#### or 800-634-1313. It might be worth it to give them a call. The owners bring their dogs to the vet clinic I work at and are very nice, I'm not sure if they actually go out on calls but I've met a few of their techs (they do the pest control for our clinic) who are also very nice.

Keep some of the ants and take them to "Bug busters" there are several in the area, you can look them up. They will identify the ant and tell you exactly what you need to use. You can also explain that it is a child's room and they can help you keep the impact of the treatment down. It might be a type of ant that responds well to bait stations and then you don't have to worry. there are many types of ants and usually only one type of treatment will work for them, that is why you need to identify the ant first. You can do this online too. If you don't, you will blow through money buying traps and different sprays and that just makes things worse for the little one. Don't go just spraying stuff around that might not even work. If you don have to spray, have her sleep somewhere else for a few days. Spray the parimeter of your house too!

spray an insect /ant spray around the perimeters of the room. SHe shouldn't have to get bitten by ants!!!!!!!!!!Call a professional if the store bought spray doesn't work.THere is something there the ants smell --they are attracted to some small piece of food or liquid. They will keep coming if they smell it........So-you have to spray.

My daughter had the same problem after she snuck cookies into her bed. Even though the cookies were gone, the ants kept coming. We bought the ant discs/traps and they worked immediately and haven't seen an ant since. The pesticide is all on the inside of the trap, so no chemicals get on anything. We "hid" hers and put them under her bed when she wasn't looking, and we haven't had any problems of her trying to touch them (she can't reach them) or anything like that.

I dont like the sprays either so I get the ant discs - just be sure to put them behind a dresser to table so the baby cant get to them. Put them outside near the window also, or spray outside around the window - thats probably where they are coming in. Also, burts bees makes some great all natural bug creams that you can put on the baby to keep them from bitting her. Good luck - shes lucky to have you for a Grandma!
