My daughter has had a nasty rash for 2 days now and I don't think her rash ointment is working. To top things off I had a friend watch her today and she didn't change her at all. She is in panties when she's home so I am hoping being out of a diaper may help. Does any one have any other suggestions? I don't want to go to the doctor unless I have to!

my 1 year old has also had a bout with a rash. The pediatrician told us to use lotrimin (cvs generic brand is called clotrimazole 1%) which we have found to clear it up. Diaper rash is basically a yeast infection so the antifungal cream really works.

One thing our pediatrician recommended when our kids were babies was giving them some "air time". If you don't mind letting your daughter walk around the house with no underwear (while wearing a dress or skirt), the air might help. Also, if her underwear is cotton, that should help, too. But if her ointment isn't working, you might have to take her to the doctor after all. I hope she gets better soon. Good luck!
I found that any cremes for athletes foot work really well since diaper rash is normally some type of fungus.
It may be a yeast infection which will need some prescription ointment to get under control and get rid of. With my daughter I am now using Desitin original formula and it seems to work. When her rashes have gotten really bad I don't use wipes at all. Viva papertowels are nice and thick and soft, wet and use those to clean the diaper area.
Have you tried Bordeaux's Butt Paste? I found out about it from a mom of 6. I had been using Balmex and A&D. Neither were helping. The Butt paste worked. Sometimes switching can help. It has only been 2 days, but you may want to take her to the doctor anyway, she could have diaper rash compounded with a yeast infection and you want to make sure to treat that properly.
Well we like Buddreaux's butt paste seems to work well for us. Also if you use wipes to wipe her, then you rinse them out with water first. There is something in the wipes, alcohol I think that makes the rash burn. You can get the Buddreaux's anywhere. Oh and also Lansinoh the stuff for your boobies during breastfeeding can be used on diaper rash as well as burns and other things. I know if you've tried several with no success the Dr. can give you a prescription diaper ointment too. Good luck.
