A Question About CAKE

Okay this may sound like the most ridiculous thing ever but I just ate a piece of cake that I made on Tuesday (so 3 day ago) and it has been on the counter covered since I made it. Now I never put my cakes or cupcakes in the fridge when I make them and keep in mind that this is a cake out of a box - Betty Crocker - with a container of store bought icing. But even so, when you mix the cake altogether you have to add water, oil and EGGS. The egg thing has me a bit worried now that I am thinking about it. Cant I and wont I get sick from eating something that has been on the counter for 3 days with no refridgeration and contains eggs?
I havent before but I guess I never really thought of this before now and I cant see how I wouldnt. Im also 13 weeks pregnant and am starting to think that I have just done a really stupid thing. Please someone convince me that I will not yack up cake in an hours time
Thanks in advance

What can I do next?

Since you cooked the cake, you cooked the eggs!
Cake generally does not need refrigeration.
You're gonna be fine.

(suddenly I have strong desire for baked goods!)

You're fine! The eggs were cooked when you baked the cake. Think about it, you leave bread/bagels/muffins on the counter. Same thing.

I remember being pregnant and freaking out about every little thing I ate too!

Baked goods are fine at room temperature even for a few days (when they last that long). The eggs are baked.

It's fine. We never refridgerate cake-it makes it stale. The cake is cooked and a cake mix w/ store bought icing has enough preservatives in it to probably be fine until Christmas! See all the Twinkies, Muffins, sweet rolls and cupcakes at the convenience, grocery and bakery stores? They just sit on a shelf! Some of them sit there a REALLY long time too!

You'll be fine. The worst that might happen is the cake wil ldry out after a while. My mom makes cakes all the time--always had a buttermilk cake whe I was little sitting on the table. Never got sick. If you think about it, the cakes at the store on the shelf are usually a couple of days. I think I am going to start really double checking those dates on the packages.

If you ever use a frosting mix using milk, definitely refrigerate.

If the eggs were raw, you MIGHT have something to worry about. But all the cakes I have ever made had the eggs mixed in and the eggs were cooked when the cake was cooked.

Don't worry about it and enjoy the cake.

Good luck to you and yours.

So since we are now all craving a piece of cake... what kind of cake was it :)
if it makes you feel any better I had this same concern after I ate some banana bread yesterday that I baked on sunday ( from a mix with eggs added) and it hasnt been in the fridge at all. I called my mom and asked her the same thing and she assured me that I would survive.

No, it's okay. When you bake something like cake or bread, a chemical change occurs so it's no longer a matter of being perishable.

Gosh if that cake after 3 days was bad, then I should be dead several times over. We had the big birthday on Saturday the 6th and baked a big cake. Then had the party on Saturday the 13th with another big cake. So after all that time I just ate the last of the 13 day old white cupcakes last night, and threw away the last of the volcano cake this morning. It wasnt even covered but with so much frosting it was still moist inside as it went down the garbage disposal. lol.. Isnt it neat how all of a sudden you are so protective of a tiny baby inside you? So sweet to worry about 3 day old cake.

THAT IS SO WEIRD!!!! My husband's bday was on Tue and my kid picked out white cake mix w/rainbow bits and chose cream cheese frosting (cuz my husband loves cream cheese frosting)...we added sprinkles though. We made it on Tue and it has been sitting out all week on a cake stand - covered too. I swear it! I have pics to prove it.

I wonder if our worlds collide w/hundreds or even thousands of other moms daily but we just never know it.

Sorry, no answer to your question. Cheers!
