4 Yr Old with Re-occuring Yeast Infections.

I have a 4 year old who in the last 2 months has had about 7 yeast infections. They come and we start treating and some of them go away but others get so bad she cannot wear any clothing and the pain is so severe from the irritation it has caused. We do probiotics 3 times a day for 2 months and we have already stopped baths and just do showers and she drinks water like crazy. We have had swabs done and everything came back negative, we have had her tested for juvenile diabetes because it runs heavily in our family and that causes yeast infections but that was negative too. Not sure where else to turn or what else to do. We have done nyastatin and diflucan several times and nothing seems to work. Been to peditrician several times and they keep saying there is nothing else they can do for her but they just keep coming back so frequent. Would love for any advice given.

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your advice and suggestions. We will be going to Arnold Palmer Childrens Hospital in Orlando in a few weeks to see a pediatric infectious disease doctor and a pediatric gynecologist. I want to get one thing straight though right now. this site is a place for people to ask for help, advice, and suggestions for differents things they need help with or are going through. If you cannot offer anything kind or helpful keep your thoughts to your self. You do not know what my family is going through or how we feel. This site is not for you to redicule people you know nothing about. My daughter is my only child and I do protect her and love very much. We are at our last straw and do not think that we have not thought of everything possible causing this for we have and have discussed this with our peditrician. I should not have to go on here and defend my self but what you posted was absolutely rude and disrespectful.

Have you changed your detergent to a completely fragrance and dye-free type? Also, have you had her allergy tested for food allergies? This may seem gross/TMI, but people can have anal yeast infections as well as vaginal or genital (since men also get them) infections. If there is an anal infection, it can easily transfer to the genital region, especially if she's not wiping in the right direction. Allergies to certain foods can cause anal yeast infections even though she may not be having other reactions to the foods. Certain nuts, dairy, wheat -check it out!

All of the answers provided seem to be right on track. Except 7 infections within the last 2 months seems excessive. I hate to be the only one with a dark answer, but have you introduced a new male relative or friend into her surrounding lately. Oral secretions and manual stimulation with dirty hands can irritate vaginal tissue and cause yeast infections. I could be absolutely wrong about your child's case, but when every possibility has been eliminated then you have to take a look at what is left to consider even if it is the worse thing that you could possibly imagine. I am sorry, but no one made mention in their answers and it is a mother's job to protect her child.

2 of my 4 girls suffered from frequent yeast infections. We tried every stinkin rx antifungal cream out there and they continued, until one doc reccomended Lotrimin, for athelete's foot and it worked like magiccccc!!! I used to buy the one in the dark gray box w orange designs. u can also get the generic kind just make sure it has the same exact avtive ingredient ( sorry cant think of the name)and % as lotimin.I also noticed that the antibiotic Augmentin brought them on. What i would do is stop the probiotics and put her on a bland diet for a week, also stop all dairy. Feed her nothing but boiled chicken and steam veggies, rice and toastand water. Sometimes we just gotta go on a bland diet and start from zero to figure stuff out.

Look into a candida-free diet. I don't have a lot of information to offer on it, but my MIL had a yeast problem in her lungs and the doctors put her on a candida (yeast) free diet and it seemed to help. I'm sure Googling it would turn up lots of resouces!

When recurrent or chronic yeast infections were a problem, it turned out to be the result of antibiotics without probiotics and our poor diet altering the intestinal biota. The yeast thrive on sugars (and refined carbs and grains which quickly turn into sugars).

In any case, it took a prolonged stint of probiotics, low carb diet (no junk food, juices, sugary drinks, etc.) and even prescription meds like nystatin, to really make a difference in the long run. However, some people use OTC anti-candidal supplements.

Our doctor had us give our daughter vinegar baths 3 times a day for a week or so. You take a container that is the size you would use to soak your feet . Put a cup of white vinegar in then add warm water . Let her sit in it (put it in the bathtub ) for ten minutes. It worked for us. Good luck =0)

Try giving her a lukewarm bath with some organic apple cider vinegar with "the mother" in it. You can get it at a health food store. Put 1/2 cup into the bathwater. You can also try swabbing the area with diluted apple cider vinegar, but the bath is better. The apple cider vinegar may burn a little if she's really irritated, but the burning goes away and relief is in its place. It's the only thing I know that really relieves the itch for a long time!

Candex is helpful for yeast infections. Since she is so young you'd have to empty part of a capsule into something like yogurt or applesauce.

You can also look into lauriciden. I've heard many people have good luck with it.

Others have said threelac is the cure. It works, but it's very expensive.

She needs the candida diet. The best cures I've had are apple cider vinegar and the candex. Good luck!

Try blow drying her off after a bath or shower to make sure that there is no water left on her. Then, use a powder puff and put on cornstarch. This is what I do myself and it is the only thing that keeps it at bay. You might also have to do a topical 2 or 3 times a day for a week or two to keep it at bay and get it all gone. Have you tried hydrocortisone? My doc recommended that for my DD and it seems to be working for her same problem. GL
