Yeast Infection on Skin - Not Going Away
My daughter (3) has a spot on the inside of her arm right before it becomes her armpit. It's about the size of a pepperoni (that's actually what we call it lol). Anyways, after two trips to the ped they took a scraping and determined it's a yeast infection. I was instructed to apply lotramin 3x daily and she's on difulcan 1x per day. She's had this spot for a few months now (I thought it was a dry skin spot at first, as did the 1st dr we saw). The ped told me that if after being on the difulcan for a week it wasn't gone to call, so I did and they referred her to a dermotologist, who can't get her in until the end of JUNE! Now, the spot itself doesn't exactly bother her, but the rest of her skin is having what her ped described as a reaction to the infection and she's bumpy and itchy all over her torso. Has anybody else ever had a child have this kind of infection and how long did it take to go away? Should I be worried? Anybody out there work for a derm or is one? I don't want to wait a month + to get more info, and googling yeast infections is obviously not garnering me the info I need. Thanks!

Could be ringworm (which is a fungal infection) which still uses an anti-fungal cream (same as yeast infection). It's on a moist warm part of her body so it makes sense.
Try reducing her sugar intake - juice has lots of sugar, look at cereal, fruit roll ups, etc. Push lots of water. Try atheletes foot powder to help keep it from getting moist/sweaty.
Good luck mama.

this is my great-grandma's cure for yeast infections...dill pickles. the vinegar in the pickles kills the yeast in your body from the inside out. As long as the person eating the pickles doesnt have heart problems (because of the salt) this really works! I worked with a woman who had a horrible yeast problem with her skin. She had tried everything the doctors recommended and zip, zero, nadda affect on the yeast. I told her about eating dill pickles and even tho she didnt believe me she gave it a shot and was so happy to be rid of that yeast! if your daughter likes pickles give it a shot!

Dilute Apple Cider Vineagar, 5o/5o ratio...wipe over affected area...it should clear up within a few days...if not, try adding peroxide and water! The other post mentions, if it is on skin, then it's def. inside the body as well...Apple Cider Vinegar can be added to water, juice, etc.. will help tremendously faster than any meds Dr. might prescribe... For toddlert, dosing would be about 1/4 tsp - half tsp...given 1-2 daily, empty stomach usually works best tho...Should clear evrything up withhin few days! If itching is persistant, I would see a different Dr, just to get a 2nd opinion.
Best of luck to u and her. PS) great info; www.earthclinic.com/ailments

has she been checked for diabetes? glucose intolerance? etc.....
& as other posters mentioned, eliminate the sugar & most of the carbs to see what happens.
I would also pump yogurt! & I've been known to use it topically for yeast infections. Doesn't smell great....but it definitely works!

Try Selson Blue Shampoo I know it works for ringworm.
You could also try Tea Tree Oil. Or any OTC product for a yeast infection from athelete's foot to vaginal infections.
Not sure if any of this will help but I don't think it would hurt.

Eating yogurt is all fine, but nothing beats applying it directly.
Get some plain yogurt and add a cup of it into her bath then make the bath last as long as you and she can stand it.
It's great for your skin whether you're having problems or not.
Lotramin is good for yeast, but it it's ringworm (fungal), a yeast medication will not work - try Tinactin cream or ointment.
Hope it gets better soon!

Hi C.,
Diluted vinegar water works well for yeast. I've used this for my babies if they developed a yeast rash. I second the recommendations for removing all added sugars from her diet and limiting the amount of carbs she eats as well. Focus on whole foods and yogurt(one with live active cultures for probiotics).

Well, I would start her eating yogurt too (heck mix yogurt into her milk if she will drink it! same with smoothies I would replace all juice with yogurt smoothies for a while). You can also buy the OTC yeast infection meds for women and apply that too to the area (it works...).
Lowering sugars and carbs will help too (but she will be really grumpy and unhappy until the yeast dies out from that starvation route...)

Can you call the Doc back or maybe your insurance and get a referral to another Dermatologist? I agree a month is too long to wait because sometimes these things can really spread. I do know that when my daughter had a yeast infection on her bottom, they really stressed using all the cream even after the rash was visibly gone. That is all I know though as hers was gone in a week or so.
Good Luck
