Hi

My 2 year old daughter has dry scalp. Its really just one spot on her head that is really dry. She scratches it a lot. The doctor recommended using selsen blue twice a week and not wash her hair every day. Its been over a week and it doesn't seem any better. Has anyone ever had this problem?

What can I do next?

Hi, my name is D. and my son who is 14 has the same problem however he has been diagnosed with psoriasis.. he now has a lotion he must use as well a special shampoo..(T-Sal from Neutragena).. his spots have cleared up.. I think you should find a dermatologist and have them diagnose her.. it took many different doctors before my son was properly diagnosed.... good luck

I am a nurse and I see a lot of this.I would suggest a coal tar preparation to use twice a week.It works wonders! S.

I agree that her hair shouldn't be washed every day, especially in the dry winter months. I wash my kids hair once evry 2 or 3 days as they are prone to dry scalp as well. Also I have stopped using children's shampoo. Currently I am using Pantene 2 in 1 shapoo + conditioner. It really makes a difference. I like having their hair & scalp conditioned. Selsun blue is good, as my DH uses it, but neutrogena also makes a good dry scalp formula. Try humidifiers in her room at night. Hope this helps.

There is a company called Melaleuca. It has great products which are extremely safe for children and adults. A lot of their products are made for people with sensitive skin or exczema, as well as respiratory products as asthma. They have multiple shampoo/conditioner lines and one in particular is a theraputic moisturizing shampoo. It would really help your little one. If you are interested in any more info you can look into it at www.melaleuca.com or message me with any other questions you have.

My 20 month DD also has dry hair and scalp. We also don't wash her hair every day and when we do have been using Johnson's baby conditioning shampoo, which helps with the combing and brushing. I also bought a baby oil from Whole Foods that I rub into her scalp when it gets really bad. But cutting back on washing and using the conditioning shampoo seems to help. Good luck!

Hi,
This might sound funny but trust me it worked for my son. Go by a regular bottle of detangler in your local drug store. I use Johnson & Johnson detangling conditioning spray. At least 3x a day spray your daughter hair and comb through to get rid of flakes it took a little time to see the difference but stick with it. My son's scalp was roar on a daily basis and I tried everything but then my pedeatrician told me this and I couldn't believe it worked like a charm. Oh and one last thing do not use baby oil it clogs the pores.
Good luck and keep in touch, I would love to know how things work out.
