I have a terrible scalp itch day and night it is so frustrating, forget hair styling, I mess my hair up before even leaving the house, it started when I was using a hair product called Follicure, it's design is to help hair grow more stronger and healthier, well I don't know if I stripped something from my scalp or if it just happened coinsidently, I have been struggling with this for over 11 yrs and I always have to think of color of clothing cause it's like dandruff only resistent to any over the counter products especially head and shoulders it seems to cause it to go double the norm itch, I was curious if anyone else has gone through this and if so what works, I've asked hair stylist been to a dermatoligist and gotten prescriptions for fluonate 1% it has another name also just don't remember what it is, the hair stylist always had the same suggestions rinse real well and use conditioner, I think they thought I just wasn't rinsing the soap out enough or my scalp was needing moisterized, I finnally quit after trying many different things, changing my diet staying away from sugar and dairy items low to no fat, all live foods uncooked veggies, I'm now just at a stand still and have no other ideas.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

WOW" I'm so very delighted, I wasn't excpecting such a overwelmingly warm response from everyone here on mammas, I am gonna try Ginas advice with the fish oils and maybe try making my own soaps from soapcrafters.com and the Arbonnes products will be next if the others don't work, I thank you all, what a blessing you all have been.

Hello, My psorisis started when I was pregnant with my first child, now 19, you didn't mention if you had gone to a Dermatologist, It might be a little bit of a wait because it seems that it always takes a while to get an appointment, but I am on a wonderful medication that controlls both my psorisis and the arthritis that I developed along with it, explain the problem and all the symptoms to a specialist and tell them you have tried everything. (try to list all the meds. you have tried) there is something out there that can help. I have been taking Enbrel for 3 years and I will never stop. And I don't have to worry about what color shirt I wear anymore, do research and ask questions to a specialist. Goos luck B.P.

Hi T.,
I have the same problem, and I know what you're going through. I did go to a holistic doctor and to dermatologists. One thing that the holistic doctor told me to do was to wash my hair with johnson's baby shampoo because it has very little irritants. He said I can use a conditioner but it should only be made from natural fruit (like the fructise) and for normal hair only. Don't color your hair, don't use any mousse or gel (I know it sucks). Plus, I have a prescription for Clobetalsol 0.05% gel that I apply before I go to bed and then comb it out in the morning before I shower.
Another thing I heard is of course avoid sugar, white flour and products with white flour, and caffeine. I have a lot of trouble with the last one. As much as I want the itch to stop, I'm not strong enough to stop drinking coffee (I work the night shift).

Hope this helps, good luck and let me know if it works.

Have you considered allergies to hair products? My mom used to think I wasn't rinsing well when I was little. It turned out I was allergic to the shampoo. I've found if the first two ingredients for shampoo are sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate to stay away. You might try experimenting for a few days with just a "safe" shampoo and no conditioner or hair styling products, then if you're okay there start testing out whether you can use styling gel, spray, mousse et cetera. GOOD LUCK!!! Me, I buy my stuff through soapcrafters.com and make it myself.

T., dear friends of mine have told me that their young daughter has suffered from this problem for years, and when they started giving her this product, BAZI, it has all gone away. It may be worth a try. You can learn about it and order it online at http://www.xelr8-u.com . It comes with a 60 day money-back guarantee, so I don't think you have anything to lose. We use it and love it. Best of luck.

Yes, it has to do with diet, but more importantly product! Start reading your labels. There a quite a bit of chemicals in our products that we use.
Have you ever heard of Arbonne? Our hair care is botanically based, pH correct and there are no fragrances or chemicals that would trigger you.
My son had the same problem and I switched to Arbonne and they also have this product that is called 'Slin Conditioning Oil'. It is a blend of 14 essential oils. I placed a few dropps on his scalp and it cleared right up!

I would love to help you with this,
T.

If you send me your email I will send you Arbonne's recommendation for this :)

Have you tried Scalpicin? That is the only one that has ever worked for me, and it works really well. Just apply it all over the head after shampooing.

Hi T.,

While it could certainly be your shampoo, I get the impression it's lack of EFAs (essential fatty acids) in your diet. I recommend taking fish oil supplements and adding fish & eggs to your diet (as long as you're not allergic or vegan). You should also be sure to stay hydrated and drink lots of water. If it still doesn't subside after a couple of months, feel free to call my office to schedule an appointment to see me. ###-###-####

Hi T.,

I can't say that I've come across anyone with your issue with the scalp, but I do know several friends who use the Arbonne baby line, cleansing gel, shampoo, and/or anti-aging line on their psoriasis and eczema and they love it. I would be happy to chat with you a little more to see if there's a product that Arbonne carries that might help you. All of our products are botanically based and proven to be pure, safe, and beneficial. I'll let you know what I find out from other users, etc. Let me know if you want additional information.

Have a great day,

I have had that issue since 3rd grade my only relief is changing shampoos every three weeks under my cabinet i have tons & I switch between them. Also head & shoulders sucks it makes my about fifty times worse but selsun blue does give a little relief then a switch to another shampoo before my body builds a resistance. I should mention I have a level 3 allergic reaction to nickle so this happens to every part of my body. I have to constantly use different body soaps lotions & use only hypo allergenic makeup. The salons look at me like i am crazy because i will itch my head till it bleeds but switching the shampoos has REALLY HELP. give it a try hope it helps a little.

I used to have chroic dry scalp - chunks of skin coming off up on top. I started taking a high grade fish oil since we don't eat fish and I had heard how good fish oil is for many things with your body. I had heard that fish oil helped others with dry scalp but wasn't optimistic. It definitely worked for me. In fact, if I go several days or weeks without the fish oil, my scalp gets really nasty again. Not all fish oils are the same . . . different concentrations, etc. Find a quality one. We get the Ultimate Omega from Nordic Naturals. GNC has a good brand too. Good luck.

I'm sorry you have been having this problem. I am no stranger to skin problems, so I feel your pain! My first suggestion would be to wash your hair as little as possible, maybe every other day. The hard water we have around here is so drying! As for products, Neutrogena T-Gel is good. I believe it is made from coal tar. Doesn't smell that great, but it can help. Selsen Blue makes a moisturizing shampoo that works pretty well too. The medicated formula seemed to dry me out more. Not sure if you've already tried these, but wanted to throw them out there. Good luck!

Dear T. --

Yes, there is something that will help you. I represent a company that has a line of products that work amazingly well on ecxema anywhere and on the scalp is not a problem. You would use a special shampoo that we have, no additional conditioner, use a cream at night that you would massage into your scalp -- it is not greasy -- and then you would wash it out in the morning. This will go away from the use of these products. Everything is hypo-allergenic. Call me at ###-###-#### and we can talk or email me at ____@____.com and ask me questions, if you like. I know that this will help.

I have had scalp problems my whole life, similar to yours. I use head and shoulders hypoallergenic and aloe for dry scalp. I also switch off with denorex. I have found my scalp is very sensitive to most conditioners, try to find a hypoallergenic one.

Hi T.
I know your problem. I too have psoriasis in my scalp. My father and I both have it and we use Dermazinc. It is a prescription and I believe they formulate it. This is a liquid and you can be poured on the scalp directly, very easy to use. It is a bit greasy so I use it before I go to bed and wash in the morning. My dad has had this problem for 40+ years and I have had it at least 20. We have both done many different things to help, but this has given us great relief.
Good luck.
