2 1/2 Year Old Boy with UTI?

My son, who will be 3 in August, has been having several pee accidents in the past 2 days. He is also barely making it when he does get to the potty in time. He isn't going any more than usual or drinking more than usual, it's just very urgent when he has to go. He has a low grade fever- 100.3 under his armpit. He has been very weepy, tired and whiney. He says his tummy hurts, and his throat, but he often says that and I think he doesn't really know what he's saying. His potty training has been flawless for the past several months. Just wondering if anyone else has had a boy with a bladder infection- I'm not sure how common it is. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

He woke up this morning with a much better disposition, but still warm. He stayed dry over night, but his pee was very dark and stinky this morning. I'll see how the day goes. I know that kids would sometimes rather play than go to the bathroom, but he's been potty training for about a year and hasn't had an accident in months. That's why I took notice. If his symptoms persist, I'll take him in. Thanks for the advice!

my son is 3 and has a bladder infection right now that we are clearing up, i'd take him in. they will make him pee in a cup so bring a bribe in case he gets a little scared or shy:)

hello
i would make a pointment with your son doctor and let them what going on tell him everything you told us and see what they say good luck

My daughter was 9 months old and was running a fever and it ended up being a UTI and furthermore we discovered she has urinary reflux and this caused bacteria to grow and this is why she had a fever to fight off the bacteria. Anyways, I would suggest you take him in to see if he has a UTI to be certain because the doctors were very cautious with her being so young and they didn't want her kidneys to be affected. Hope this helps and doesn't freak you out LOL! Good Luck. :)

My daughter was in preschool when she did the same thing. Her teacher said she was experimenting to see how long she could wait. She said this isn't a bad thing for a short time because she is stretching/expanding her bladder.
My daughter didn't have a fever like your son.
Good luck.

I would take the child to the dr. You can not tell if he has a uti without a urinalyis. UTis are rare in boys and men- but not impossible.

He could have another type of infection - my friends son had an ear infection and was wetting his pants.

Take him to the dr. to find out what is wrong.

Hi L.;

Yep, my son had a very bad UTI a couple of months ago, he is 3 yr old. My Dr. suggested that perhaps he had been holding his pee too long, maybe not wanting to interupt his play. However, he did not have a fever, or any other symptoms and his UTI was fairly severe (according to my Dr.) I am hoping by now you've seen a dr. and maybe your son was having accidents simply because he doesn't feel well and it's not a UTI at all. Good Luck!

His symptoms do sound like a UTI. When you take the temperature under the arm with a regular thermometer your suppose to add one degree to get the actual body temp. So if the thermometer says 100.3 his temp is actually 101.3. His urine being dark and having a strong smell that is another UTI symptom. And he might be holding his urine in because it might hurt to pee if he has an infection. Does he seem uncomfortable when he goes to the bathroom? I would deffinitely take him in because if it is a UTI and it goes untreated it can turn into a bladder infection and that would be very painful for the little guy. So, please get him into his doctor as soon as you can. Even if it does turn out to be nothing at least you'll be able to relax and stop worrying about him. Good luck.

How do u know its UTI. Did you physically bring him to the doctors, did they physically give him urine test ? 3year olds tend to bee tooo busy to pee when they are doing something fun.. The fever under the armpit, the doctors don't even register 100.3 as a fever. Let me know.. I just think he is a boy having fun. I think maybe you should just try bringing him to the potty more. He could have a weak bladder.
and again Please let me know.
