14 Month Son Suddenly Wetting Through Diapers at Night

My 14-month-old son has been urinating A LOT at night for the past 5 nights. He has been wetting through his diaper and pajamas. (I have now doubled up diapers and used a larger size, and he is no longer wetting through.) I am concerned because he is suddenly urinating so much more than before (the diaper weighs 2-3 lbs in the morning). His milk/water/fluid/food intake has not changed at all. He is otherwise acting normal. Is this normal??? He has never peed so much at night before! And I'm not sure why it seemed to increase so suddenly. Thanks in advance for your help.

I feel for you J.. My 21 month old pees thru his PJ's at least 3 times a week and he wears overnight diapers AND plastic pants over them. My doctor told me that when they sleep they are obviously relaxed so they let go and urinate. As long as your son is still taking in a good amount of fluid and isn't showing any signs of dehydration don't worry about it. Doctor also said that it is a "good" sign as they are starting to learn to hold their urine and could make for easier potty training. Fingers crossed!!

That's about the same age my daughter was when we had to switch to Huggies Overnights. They are awesome, and she still has to wear them. They come in a purple package. As they are the only overnight out there, I stock up on them when the go on sale. I also went up a size in diapers for her, but you'll need to make sure they aren't too loose. Good luck!

Huggies overnights are the only things that we could use and sometimes still wet through.

i know you sent this out a long time ago, but i had to comment. my son is 8 and he frequently leaks out of his overnights and all over the place and never wakes up. the funny thing is, i sometimes even lessen his intake of liquids before bed and he still can do it. we had to find the exact right overnight for him and sometimes it still doesn't work!!! i know it's normal, but it's very frustrating. i just thought i'd give you a little sympathy!!! i hope you find the right solution. my son is sleeping with special pads under him so at least the bed stays ok (along with plastic sheets under the sheets, and a regular mattress pad!). good luck!!!
